Position Summary

PG&E is seeking an experienced energy business professional to be a member of the Event Strategy and Analysis Team as a Principal Event Lead. The Event Strategy and Analysis team is responsible for leading the end to end analysis and investigation of major electric system incidents.  The Event Lead will work to understand the operational facts surrounding each event, perform in-depth data analysis of electric operational and asset-related work, and will working across a variety of internal subject matter experts to understand what happened during those events for Electric Operations program improvement.

This role will have a high level of visibility with PG&E leadership. Therefore, a strong applicant will be an organized, motivated, inquisitive, a laser-focused consensus builder, and seeks to understand the “bigger picture”.

This position is based out of PG&E’s General Office complex in downtown San Francisco, CA and will require occasional travel to other areas around PG&E’s service territory.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Event Leads will be responsible for the end to end analysis of electric system events. 
  • The Event Leads will primarily work with various Electric Operations line of business personnel including operational personnel, program and process owners, standard owners, the Wildfire Safety Operations Center, the electric compliance teams, Electric Operations senior leadership, and the Electric Data Response Integrity (DRI) team.
  • The leads will consistently work with Electric Operations partner organizations including inside counsel, law claims, external counsel, and other key stakeholders
  • Acts as a key contributor to the team and provides mentorship and guidance to members with less experience. Coordination with operational personnel, including site visits, to understand the facts of what occurred in each event.
  • Lead collection of any potentially relevant evidence, data exploration, and event analysis. Seek out operational and historical asset data for analysis and understanding.
  • Coordinate with inside/outside counsel on strategy for litigation support. Build a “Case File” for what happened, when it happened, and who was involved with assigned event(s) to help PG&E better understand and appropriately communicate what happened during these events to prevent recurrence
  • Responsible for events of high complexity, support ad-hoc requests for support as new data or issues arise. This position requires an “athlete” or “flex player” who is comfortable taking initiative
  • Identify propose and influence solutions to complex business problems. May assist with training, change management, and communications associated with proposed implementations
  • Identify, propose, and influence solutions to complex business problems and engage with senior leadership to promote process improvement and gap closure initiatives

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA/BS in Business, Engineering, Computer Science/Information Systems, etc. or equivalent work experience
  • Ten (10) years of job-related experience in Business, IT or Engineering fields
  • Experience with electric operation systems (design or operation or data systems associated within electric operations)
  • Participation in projects of high complexity at an expert level or in a leadership role
  • Travel to other facilities for meetings and site visits about 10% to 20%.

  • 5 years of electric utility industry experience
  • Basic technical understanding of overall electric grid design, operations and asset management
  • Master’s in Engineering or MBA
  • Experience in management consulting, project management or product management
  • Ability to effectively communicate with credibility, confidence and clarity highly complex ideas to diverse audiences using a variety of media
  • Ability to solve unique and complex problems and anticipate issues
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and stakeholders and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility in project communication, execution and problem approach when coordinating across various stakeholders.
