Department OverviewInformation Technology is a unified organization comprised of various departments which collaborate in order to effectively deliver high quality technology solutions. IT functions are to design, develop, operate and maintain the information and telecommunications systems that enable the Company to meet its commitment to customers: Keeping the Lights on and the Gas Flowing, Delivering at a Reasonable Price, and Providing Simple and Convenient Options.

 

Position Summary

The Enterprise Strategy & Architecture (ES&A) is a centralized architecture group within Information Technology department. The group supports PG&E’s safety, reliability and affordability goals under the architecture mandate of Reuse, Rationalize, Optimize, and Standardize.

Reporting to the Lead Enterprise Application Architect, the successful candidate in the role will be responsible for ensuring that the architecture vision is turned into reality by:

  • Delivering business strategy driven Capability Target Architectures and corresponding implementation roadmaps across the enterprise
  • Helping build and maintain prioritized portfolio backlogs for business features and foundational or shared capabilities
  • Enabling and empowering execution teams by delivering reusable architecture patterns, architecture building blocks, reference architectures, implementation best practices, and architecture decision frameworks
  • Coaching, mentoring, and guiding the implementation teams throughout the value chain
  • Rolling up the sleeves to get the job done, if necessary

The successful candidate will have strong experience with diverse set of technologies and platforms with deep expertise in at least a few. The successful candidate will also be familiar with cloud migration and integration patterns and be comfortable working in a fast-paced agile environment. Experience working with or in the utility industry is highly desirable but not required.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Work in the Enterprise Architecture team with responsibilities for delivery to clients including the IT centers of excellence and multiple lines of business as needed
  • Provide alignment with the work being performed within the client teams and the architecture organization
  • Work on the Architecture and Solution Continuum
  • Develop thorough understanding of the PG&E’s enterprise and business architecture, the infrastructure, applications and systems
  • Monitor, enhance and maintain Solutions Blueprints, Reference Architectures, and other artifacts within the EA stream for projects
  • Align solutions with existing reference architectures and contribute to enhancing them.
  • Co-ordinate and align with the Technical and Domain Solutions architects within the centralized architecture organization covering areas such as Security, Network, Integration, End User technologies, Analytics and ECM among others
  • Develop and maintain relationship and coordination with Business, Information and Technology Architects
  • Create and conduct stagegate reviews for major projects covering architecture alignment, code reviews, design reviews etc.
  • Provide technology guidance and leadership to clients/stakeholders
  • Stay up to date with developments and technology in the Mobile, Cloud and other segments of the industry
  • Ability to thrive in a fast moving, Agile environment.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Eng. or a related subject
  • Minimum 10 years of software development and delivery experience
  • Minimum 7 years of solution architecture and project implementation experience
  • Experience working as a Technical Lead/Architect in an Agile environment
  • Experience working as a Technical Lead or Solution Architect in an Agile environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High-energy, passionate, and positive outlook with strong sense of ownership

 

Desired:

 

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field
  • Expertise in architecture patterns and best practices specifically Microservices architecture, Domain Driven Design, and 12-Factor App
  • Strong experience with diverse set of application development technologies and platforms with deep expertise in at least a few:
    • Languages, Scripting, Frameworks, and Libraries (e.g. C/C++, Java/JEE, .Net, Scala, Go, Spring, PowerShell, Python JavaScript, React, Angular, Node.js)
    • Cloud architecture (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP, Salesforce, Heroku, SAP)
    • Messaging and Events (e.g. AWS SQS, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, Kafka, Redis, AWS Kinesis)
    • APIs and Microservices (e.g. REST, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS ECS, Azure AKS)
    • Relational Databases (e.g. MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
    • Big Data and NoSQL (e.g. Spark, Hadoop, HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cosmos DB)
    • AI and Machine Learning (e.g. TensorFlow, SageMaker, Pytorch, scikit-learn)
    • SecDevOps and CI/CD (e.g. Git, Jenkins, TeamCity, Maven, Gradle, Artifactory, SonarQube, HashiCorp Vault, Consul, CloudFormation, Chef, Ansible, Terraform)
  • Good understanding of business and data architecture, business capability mapping, and business process reengineering
  • At least basic understanding of computer networking, virtualization, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Cryptography, Threat Modeling, and Risk Assessment
  • Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Relevant architecture certification such as TOGAF
  • Relevant utility industry experience
