Department Overview

Enterprise Strategy and Architecture (ES&A) is a unified organization comprised of various architecture departments. This organization  partners with the IT organization major stakeholders to provide enterprise perspective for technology investment.

 

Position Summary

This position reports up to a Lead Business Architect. Develops and maintains the business architecture for the enterprise through ownership of business focus areas / (“domains”). Partners with business leads, analysts, data, technology and information architects and identify value streams, high level processes, current and target state architectures, and providing thought leadership and recommendations through strategies and roadmaps. These artifacts are the output of the BA’s functional expertise and support development of long term IT portfolio investment.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

 

  • Enterprise Architecture Practice: Shapes, follows and helps drive continuous improvement of the overall Enterprise Architecture department and practice. Enterprise BAs defines the Enterprise Business Architecture practice in relation to all of EA and oversee and guide Line of Business Architects as a community through leadership and mentorship.
  • Stakeholder management: Interact and develop relationships with business and IT stakeholders related to focus areas (“domains”).  Provide subject matter input for domains and works with LOB business architects for critical architectural considerations. Works with small cross-domain teams of technology, data, and application/solution architects in an agile-concept manner to support proper investment towards enterprise business capabilities.
  • Capability analysis, current and target state architecture: Manages business capability for the designated domain. Identifies change to business capabilities for the architect’s focus area to determine a current and target state needed for that change. Proposes key actions, strategies to get to target state, outlining specific outcomes that can support investment business cases and portfolio planning.
  • Future State road mapping and planning support: Works with business and technology partners to plan for business technology change. Develops various types of roadmaps to align across business and technology timelines.
  • Portfolio Capability Management: Works with business and technology partners to guide and manage the business capabilities of the IT portfolio for the architect’s domain, while managing cost and risk to the enterprise.
  • Principal Business Architects have accountability and responsibility for focus areas that are of complex scope and with significant risk and high impact across multiple functions. They work autonomously and participate collaboratively with cross-architectural teams. They address complex problems that span functions and may manage projects or initiatives that are high complexity and risk. They provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to non-architect technical staff of lesser experience. They generally work with Senior Management to influence strategies and decisions.
  • Standards and Governance: Develops artifacts that document current or future business capabilities for reuse. Participates in the governance processes as defined by the PG&E architecture practice.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of experience in business analysis and process modeling functions with experience leading teams for at least 3 years
  • Proven experience in structured systems analysis
  • Experience with business process modeling tools and processes
  • Experience providing direction to one or more Business Architects and/or Business Analysts
  • Ability to influence major, long-term digital strategies at the highest executive levels
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with IT and business leadership
  • Ability to evaluate technology benefits/risks in a very large, complex business environment
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong understanding of information processing principles and practices
