Department Overview

In Customer Care we are focused on delivering the desired customer experience for each of our

customers. Everything we do starts with the customer and our information about the customer. That

information is collected and managed by our Customer Experience Strategy group. Each of our

organizations, though completely dependent upon each other, are the experts in their area and will

further drive PG&Es alignment around the customer.

 

Within Customer Care, the Customer Energy Solutions department (CES) is responsible for designing,

implementing and administering customer programs, including energy efficiency, distributed generation,

demand response, and rate programs that help PG&E customers in Northern and Central California

manage the energy use of their homes and businesses. CES’ Energy Efficiency (EE) Strategy and

Operations team is responsible for supporting the delivery of energy efficiency products and services

throughout PG&E’s service territory.

 

This position is with the Deemed Platform Quality Control and Communications (DPQC&C) under the EE Strategy and Operations team. DPQC&C writes and manages all work papers and the data and ensure it complies with regulatory and PG&E requirements. DPQC&C works closely with the California Public Utilities Commission staff to manage the overall quality of workpapers and data submitted to support Deemed programs.

 

Position Summary

This senior engineer position is in the Deemed Platform Quality Control and Communications Team that provides support for our CES clients.  This position provides primary technical support across many technologies and maintaining a strong familiarity with CPUC guidance to support our Core Products residential, multi-family and small commercial rebate programs.  In addition, this position may provide technical support for Third Party and Government Partnership Rebates and Core Retrofit Incentive Programs.  Specific duties may change in response to CES product needs.  This position requires a high level of attention to detail as well as an intense focus on client and customer satisfaction.  Success is measured by client satisfaction surveys, metrics of productivity, and ultimately by progress toward CES meeting its goals to help customers save energy while maintaining the highest achievable levels of customer satisfaction. 

 

The successful candidate can quickly assess technology applicability and eligibility, compare against CPUC guidance, and communicate recommendations that conform with program rules. 

 

Job Responsibilities

This position provides primary assistance and technical assistance to the Core Products rebate programs aimed at residential, multifamily and small commercial customers.  This position will work closely with the technologies lead in the Deemed Platform Quality Control and Communications Group.  In addition, this position may also support Emerging Technologies, Core, Third Party and Government Partnership calculated retrofit projects.  Primary responsibilities include:


Provide assistance to Program Managers and others as needed with product technical assessments, rebate program development, engineering calculations, application reviews, and contracting for energy efficiency work;

  • Prepare technical review, development, revision, and maintenance of Deemed Program work papers and associated databases. 
  • Interface with the CPUC Energy Division on selected project applications, opinions and work papers.
  • Provide frequent status updates and assistance to Product Managers,
  • Provide engineering assessments of new products and/or technologies which may have the potential to produce energy savings for PG&E customers, and
    Assist Emerging Technologies group with technical assessment projects to determine the energy savings potential of new energy efficient technologies.
  • Schedule and complete pre-commitment and post construction field verifications and reports for new construction projects; Schedule and complete pre-application and post- installation technical reviews for retrofit projects;

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 4 years
  • Knowledge of building design practice and building systems such as HVAC, lighting and building envelope.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Valid California driver's license
  • Strong focus on client and customer satisfaction 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; good presentation skills
     
    Desired:
  • Experience with energy efficiency technologies including commercial and industrial lighting, HVAC equipment, central plant heating, cooling and distribution systems and controls and building energy management systems.  
  • Experience with energy savings calculations for nonresidential retrofit projects, new construction projects and demand response projects, Title 24 and Title 20 standards;
  • Experience with DOE-2 based software including eQuest and EnergyPro,
  • MS in Engineering
  • Work experience in utility energy efficiency program M&V/project review/project evaluation
  • Strong familiarity with CPUC requirements for Energy Efficiency, including methods for determining industry standard practice, influence, baselines, measure type, and technology eligibility
  • Strong familiarity with industrial processes, such as high efficiency chillers, boilers, fans/motors, processing equipment
  • Successful track record interacting with CPUC staff and utility program staff
  • Excellent communicator—able to remain calm and respectful in contentious situations
  • Strong Collaborator and problem solver that seeks win-win solutions
  • Successful track record working with diverse stakeholders
  • Registered Professional Engineer in California
  • Experience in program languages in VB, Python, R
