Department Overview

PG&E's dynamic Business Finance team provides financial planning and reporting services to PG&E. This involves budgeting, planning and forecasting, monitoring, controlling and accounting, operational performance reporting and analysis, strategic planning and analysis, and financial decision support to the Customer Energy Solutions (CES) and Transportation Services (TS) organizations.

The work of the Business Finance CES/TS group is key to the company's success and provides a variety of opportunities, including involvement in developing, communicating, and implementing processes and tools related to budget, financial, and productivity forecasts, analyzing / streamlining reports as well as new metrics that are value added to the field, while advising partners on business / operating impacts, as well as providing accurate and timely financial and operational performance reporting.

The successful candidate will support the Energy Efficiency portfolio within CES, whose aim is to help our customers reduce their energy consumption through investment in energy efficient products. The portfolio consists of a diverse and innovative set of programs ranging from the residential customer to large industrial and commercial businesses. These programs comprise of ~$400M per year in Balancing Account Expense.

 

Position Summary

The Senior Analyst will support the Energy Efficiency Programs Director as well as the various owners/managers by working closely with the partner organization to drive financial accountability through forecasting and monitoring of costs and identifying key cost drivers/levers for both internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Analyst will provide guidance and insight into portfolio and regulatory decisions and will be relied upon to help our business partners navigate through Regulatory, Accounting, and Legal rules and requirements involved with setting up, closing down, financial tracking, cost monitoring, planning and forecasting for these programs/accounts.

The Senior Analyst should demonstrate broad expertise while applying advanced knowledge to wide-ranging issues.  Additionally, they should be able to solve complex problems and take a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.  The Senior Analyst will achieve these and help PG&E reach its broader goals by leveraging her/his exceptional communication, leadership, interpersonal, technical, analytical, statistical, and strategic skills, while applying the highest work ethic and commitment to technically developing and leading other members of the Business Finance CES team.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Planning (Long Term): Develop, guide and integrate the business unit financial plans and performance baselines to meet the Company's long term operational and financial objectives. Ensure alignment with regulatory filings.
  • Forecasting (Short Term): Coordinate the monthly forecast process and provide timely, balanced forward looking financial assessments that capture current performance and enable nimble, value optimized operational and financial decisions. 
  • Reporting & Analysis: Provide timely and accurate monthly financial visibility that objectively assesses performance, and proactive financial analytics that identifies opportunities, risks, and associated resolution recommendations.
  • Process Optimization: Identify, and evaluate key processes for opportunities in effectiveness, control, and efficiency, and recommend and implement improvements.
  • Governance: Implement and maintain functional governance standards and provide feedback on areas of opportunity.  Comply with all accounting guidelines.
  • Regulatory: Serve as the financial backbone for regulatory filings, support, and defense.

 
 
 
Qualifications
Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, finance, accounting, engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of job-related experience

 
Desired:

  • 2+ years working with financial modeling or forecasting
  • 4 years experience job related experience
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Word
  • Ability to work successfully independently and in fast-paced team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and quantitative skills
  • Intellectual curiosity, and relentless drive for continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated success interacting at various organizational levels, from line employees to Managers, Directors and Executives
  • Working knowledge of SAP R3, Analysis for Office
  • Experience with utility finance and accounting
  • Strong understanding of Accounting principles and overhead allocation models 
  • Strong technical background to perform assignments
  • Ability to assess and recommend solutions for assigned projects
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, perform and communicate activities both in written and verbal form
  • Ability to present analysis and evaluation results and output in a cohesive, understandable and actionable format to department management
  • Demonstrates an understanding of programs, policy and operations to advise business on meaning of data and results
  • Clearly articulates points and findings in both written and oral communications Ability to effectively handle risk and uncertainty, and mitigates risk appropriately
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot various issues and analysis and provide findings and recommendations
