Organization Overview

The Risk and Audit organization is responsible for enabling the business to effectively manage risk in key areas of the enterprise.  The Risk and Audit organization is responsible for five areas of risk management: (1) Internal Audit; (2) Market and Credit Risk Management; (3) Finance Compliance and Controls; and (4) Enterprise, Operational, and Third-Party Risk Management and (5) Insurance. 


Position Summary

Within the Risk and Audit organization, the Enterprise & Operational Risk Management (EORM) and Insurance department is charged with overseeing the management of enterprise and operational risks for the company, excluding credit and market risks, and for managing the company’s insurance programs.

The Quantification Team under EORM and Insurance is looking for a talented summer intern to help support the quantitative assessment of enterprise & operational risk, which includes but not limited to the following work streams for EORM Quantification Team:


  • Initiating and implementing enhancements to the existing risk models, incorporating forward-looking risk assessment, sensitivity analysis, portfolio optimization, etc.
  • Enhance EORM’s web application, used for risk score and risk reduction calculation and portfolio optimization
  • Collaborating with Data & Analytics team in IT to deploy model and UI enhancements
  • Collaborating with LOBs on future functionality and quality of life (QoL) enhancements
  • Developing technical documentation and effectively communicating to stakeholders about risk modeling methodology and analysis results both orally and in writing
  • Driving consistent quantification across LOB risks
  • Validating risk-based metrics and targets
  • Building integration points between operational risk modeling, LOB risk and asset modelling, and Risk Informed Budget Allocation (RIBA)
  • Developing visualization tools that clearly communicate risk management progress and areas for improvement
  • Research on operational risk quantification methodologies and case studies
  • Analysis of operational risk data


The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with a team of experienced analysts.  Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Risk and Audit organization through the work they will be performing.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earning a master’s degree in computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, physics, engineering or other related quantitative field. Students must be continuing education towards degree during and/or after internship).


  • Experience in the following Amazon Web Service (AWS) products: AWS Lambdas, AWS SAM CLI, Amazon S3 object storage
  • Experience in the following technology domains and distribution management systems: Jenkins, GitHub, Docker, PostgreSQL, React JS
  • Experience in data and geospatial visualization tools: Microsoft Power BI, geospatial information systems (GIS)
  • Proficiency in programming in languages such as Python.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Inspired to overcome challenges and produce high-quality work
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
