Department Overview

 

The Coworkers of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

 

The General Construction (GC) Crew Lead A – Overhead leads crews performing highest class of work including, but not limited to, “hot” operations. May work at their craft with the crew they lead. The GC Crew Lead A – Overhead is involved in receiving construction job packages and planning the work accordingly. The individual will oversee work assignments of a variety of electric construction workers (e.g., Lineworker, Apprentice Lineworker). The GC Crew Lead A – Overhead must ensure that coworkers understand and can accomplish job tasks to safely and efficiently complete new construction and/or maintenance of electric distribution systems.

 

This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. Please note that this position requires a 3-year commitment per LOA 22-06.

 

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening. 

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $81.13 per hour.  This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.  

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Leads the work crew in the Underground, Overhead, or Tower Section of General Construction Line Department
  • Oversees a crew engaged in all classes of overhead line work, in all classes of underground distribution system work utilizing non-leaded cables, and in providing electric service to customers.
  • Formulates job estimates and documents and manages environmental issues; completes all paperwork related to time records; job closures and pre-and post – job audits.
  • Trains crew members regarding equipment use, techniques and safety procedures.
  • Conducts inspection of equipment / vehicles / facilities / plant to determine proper operation, damage, wear or needs for maintenance or repair; performs testing on anything in the distribution system (e.g.; transformers, main line which may indicate a problem.
  • Performs construction, repairs, installations or removals of electric distribution system facilities using hand tools, power tools, wiring and / or testing equipment to assist or instruct crew members or to expedite the work process; performs same work as crew members.
  • Operates construction equipment as qualified to do so; operates forklift to unload large components (if qualified); operates lifts, cranes or hoists to move and position equipment or supplies (if qualified); operates digging or compaction tools (e.g., tamper); must be familiar with all equipment that may be used on the job site.
  • Helps to unload incoming parts and components; helps to unload tools/supplies/materials at each job site.
  • Drives a company pickup truck or passenger vehicle to oversee various job sites.
  • Communicates in person, by phone, by radio and using hand signals with supervisor, customers, contractors, vendors and coworkers.
  • Conduct safety and job site tailboards; attends safety meetings; attends annual and other training classes; other meetings, as assigned

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a High School diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid California Class A driving permit by first day of employment
  • Must have passed a California DMV medical exam by first day of employment
  • Completion of a federal or state sanctioned lineworker apprenticeship with approved supporting documentation and/or union or union-affiliated sponsored lineworker apprenticeship
  • Must have 2 years of experience as a journey-level Lineworker including rubber gloving, First Aid and Hazardous Materials training/experience
  • Ability to work and drive in all types of weather and road conditions
  • Capable to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to travel and transfer to a new headquarter upon request at any time; throughout the entire PG&E service territory
  • Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds a minimum of one time a day

 

Desired:

  • 2 years of PG&E journey-level Lineworker experience
  • Must have 5 years of experience on electric distribution systems and construction standards; Electric Distribution Preventive Maintenance (EDPM) training
  • Competency in interpreting and applying understanding of key financial indicators to make better business decisions
  • Competency in maneuvering comfortably through complex policy, process, and people-related organizational dynamics
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local construction codes and standards as needed to perform at the job level
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local safety regulations and laws - for example DOT, OSHA - as needed to perform at the job level
