Department Overview

Pacific Gas & Electric's Field Safety team is a comprehensive, diverse, dedicated group of skilled professionals. We work with all lines of business within PG&E (Electric, gas, customer care, IT and generation), through field visits, to proactively help them to anticipate and prepare for risk by identifying barriers, reinforcing safe behaviors, acting as the single point of contact for safety regulations and standards, and assuring a consistent and thorough approach, all in alignment with our organizations mission to safely and reliably deliver affordable and clean energy to our customers and communities every single day, while building the energy network of tomorrow.

 

Position Summary

The Career Field Safety Specialist works to detect, prevent and mitigate safety risks and collaborates with and supports line of businesses on safety issues. Monitors and responds to communications to ensure that serious safety incidents are handled in an effective, timely and complete manner.  Coaches employees to properly respond to serious safety incidents.  Will require the ability to perform work in emotionally charged and stressful situations and handle multiple demands simultaneously.  Records and trends sensitive information and maintains database.  Communicates with CAL-OSHA and other regulatory agencies.

 

This position will require some overtime including weekends and holidays to respond to serious safety incidents.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitors the PG&E Safety and Health Option 1 notification line on a 24/7 basis
  • Responds immediately to all Option 1 calls
  • Classifies the level or severity of the incident or inquiry
  • Coaches callers on how properly respond to reported incidents
  • May participate in the casual analysis portion of the investigation
  • Records details on all received calls and produces reports as required
  • Provides trending and reports as requested
  • Composes and transmits the Serious Incident Notification e-mail
  • Makes timely CAL-OSHA notifications when required
  • Notifies the CPUC Compliance supervisor when notifications are required
  • Analyzes processes and procedures to identify improvement opportunities and implement changes
  • May perform other safety related duties and projects

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3 years of relevant safety experience

 

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7 or more years of safety experience in a construction or utility environment
  • Professional Certification/Safety Management e.g., CHST, OHST, ASP, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Management
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic experience
  • Experience coordinating incident response, emergency response or responding to incidents and/or emergencies
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience in a high-volume call center
  • Experience in law enforcement, health care or transportation dispatching
