Department Overview 

 

The Visual Management & Insight Services team supports Electric Risk & Compliance by analyzing data, generating insights, and automating repeatable analytical and reporting workflows using the Microsoft Power Platform.  

 

The team partners with Electric Risk, Compliance, Audit, and operational stakeholders to reduce manual effort, improve insight timeliness, and enable consistent, scalable decision support in a regulated electric utility environment. 

 

Our focus is automating how insights are produced, refreshed, and delivered—not just creating one-time analyses. 

 

 

Position Summary 

 

The Data Analysis, Insights & Automation Internship position is part of the Visual Management & Insight Services team supporting Electric Risk & Compliance. This role is heavily focused on Power Automate–driven automation, supported by Power BI and related Power Platform tools. 

 

The intern will help: 

  • Explore and apply emerging AI-enabled tools and techniques to help streamline analytics, improve insight generation, and reduce manual effort in recurring reporting and analytical workflows. 
  • Identify manual, repetitive analytical and reporting tasks 
  • Design and implement Power Automate workflows that standardize and automate insight delivery 
  • Improve reliability, consistency, and timeliness of recurring analysis 

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including skills, education, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 

 

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $20.88 to $36.42. 

 

 

Responsibilities 

 

Automation & Workflow Development 

  • Identify manual and repetitive analytical or reporting tasks within Electric Risk & Compliance 
  • Design and build Power Automate flows to:  
    • Trigger recurring data refreshes or analysis 
    • Automate notifications, reminders, and status updates 
    • Move and structure data between systems and tools 
    • Standardize recurring insight and reporting outputs 
  • Support automation tied to operating review cadence, leadership visibility, and compliance tracking 
  • Document automated workflows, underlying logic, and dependencies to ensure long-term sustainment 

Analysis & Insight Development (Supporting Focus) 

  • Analyze Electric Risk & Compliance data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities leveraging AI 
  • Perform exploratory and ad hoc analysis to support stakeholder requests 
  • Translate analytical findings into concise insights that can be operationalized or automated 
  • Support root cause and trend analysis related to compliance performance 

Power Platform Integration 

  • Use Power BI and Power Query to support automated data preparation and analysis 
  • Support Power Apps (where applicable) to enable structured data input or workflow initiation 
  • Partner with analysts to ensure automated outputs align with reporting and insight needs 

Stakeholder Communication 

  • Work with Electric Risk & Compliance partners to understand where automation adds value 
  • Explain automated solutions, insights, and outputs to nontechnical stakeholders 
  • Prepare short summaries or walkthroughs describing what is automated, why it matters, and how outputs are used 

 

Travel may be required; frequency depends on the assignment and is typically less than 10%. 

 

Qualifications 

 

Minimum:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards degree during and/or after the internship
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work location

 

Desired:

  • Strong interest in automation, process improvement, and scalable analytics 
  • Hands on experience or coursework using Microsoft Power Platform, especially:  
    • Power Automate (workflow design, triggers, actions) 
    • Power BI / Power Query (analysis and data preparation) 
    • Power Apps (basic familiarity or interest) 
  • Experience identifying opportunities to replace manual processes with automated workflows 
  • Strong analytical thinking with the ability to connect insights with automated processes 
  • Strong communication skills to explain automated processes to nontechnical audiences 
  • Comfortable collaborating with analysts and stakeholders to refine automation needs 
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction 
  • Interest in risk, compliance, or regulated environments, particularly within electric utilities
