Department Overview

 

•             This position is located within the Gas System Planning (GSP) department of Gas Strategy Execution & System Planning (GSESP). GSP is responsible for gas system modeling, hydraulic analysis, design recommendation and review, operational and emergency support, and system’s engineering of PG&E's backbone, transmission, and distribution systems.

•             GSP's plans drive PG&E's gas system investments, design, and operations for delivering gas to PG&E's customers in a safe, affordable, reliable, manner, and without incident.

•             GSP is a leader in the development and use of innovative engineering techniques, and hydraulic modeling tools for gas system planning, and is recognized for its expert knowledge of PG&E's gas system hydraulics and operations. Position Summary

 

Performs engineering work to ensure that gas system capacity and overall system operations meet the needs of PG&E’s gas transmission system customers. Provides hydraulic analysis, operational support, and gas transmission system engineering for the company’s backbone and transmission systems. Collaborates with gas operations departments and other lines of business (LOB) to ensure the design, construction, and operation of facilities meets operational requirements of the gas pipeline systems. Acts as a liaison with gas field operations personnel to assess and review the impacts of operations within the gas pipeline system. Contributes toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles.

 

Position will require approximately 10% of travel time in work schedule.

 

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory (Rocklin).

 

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

 

California Minimum:$122,000

California Maximum: $207,000

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

•             Provides advanced hydraulic analysis and transmission system engineering expertise to evaluate and monitor backbone and transmission systems.

•             Utilizes hydraulic simulation models and tools to review and track transmission system performance for complex problems.

•             Reviews cost efficient and effective facility enhancements and replacements to determine customer needs and operating requirements.

•             Provides comprehensive analysis to assess and evaluate facility enhancement methods.

•             Ensures impacts within the gas pipeline system meets or exceeds operational requirements.

•             Reviews the calculations of pipeline, station, and compressor unit capacities and provides analysis for design load curves and temperature forecasts and results.

•             Reviews complex customer gas usage, temperature factors, and load curves.

•             Analyzes winter pressure charts, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) information, and other system performance data.

•             Validates and contrasts models and scenarios compared to gas operations data and develops recommendations to resolve complex issues Identifies new business trends and movements in the gas and backbone transmission systems.

•             Provides technical engineering expertise to assess and support gas planning tools and software.

•             Participates in the development of gas system planning policies and criteria.

•             Reviews analyses and testimony to federal, state, and local regulatory agencies/commissions, e.g., California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) andFederal Energy and Regulatory Commission (FERC)..

•             May provide training, guidance, and instruction to less experienced engineers.

 

Qualifications-

 

Minimum:

•             Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or equivalent experience 

•             Valid California driver’s license

•             Five (5) years of relevant experience

 

Desired:

 •            Knowledge and understanding of PG&E’s gas transmission, distribution, and system hydraulics

•             Knowledge, understanding, and interpretation of engineering principles, codes, and regulations impacting gas operations

•             Knowledge and understanding of the relationships between gas operations and environmental impact analysis

•             Ability to interpret engineering practices and determine if proposed work plans meets requirements

•             Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience

•             Results-oriented skills with a balanced emphasis between quality, quantity, efficiency, and effectiveness

•             Forecasting, modeling, and statistical analysis skills

•             Oral presentation skills
