Department Overview

The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

The primary function of the Senior Business System Specialist is to maintain a departmental application used to facilitate the day to day operations of the Electric Transmission Contract Management team. Primarily, that consists of developing a web enabled UI with an MS SQL Server backend.  The successful candidate will work across functional teams and partner with peers and leaders on requirements gathering and implementation of those requirements.

 

The secondary function of the Senior Business System Specialist is to develop and maintain a departmental data warehouse and to facilitate the day to day operations of the ET Governance and Technology team. Primarily, that consists of developing and maintaining a reporting schema and performing extract, transform, and loading activities within an existing MS SQL Server.  He/She works across functional teams and partners with peers and leaders on requirements gathering and implementation of those requirements.

 

Responsibilities

  • Projects are moderately complex and require selecting methods, approaches and tactics to resolve problems and obtain solutions.
  • Designs and creates forms for UI
  • Manages SQL Server security
  • Supports power users with creation of queries and analysis and reporting.
  • Applies judgment solve problems of diverse scope
  • Typically receives general instructions on new assignments or projects. Receives little instruction on recurring assignments.
  • May assist in coaching and developing less experienced staff and end users of Databases
  • Determines data needs, collects data, selects from different analytical techniques to conduct root cause analysis and determine issues.
  • Collects data to identify root cause of problems. Measures performance against process requirements. Provides consultation on the use of re-engineering techniques to improve process performance. Aligns improvement to performance shortfalls. Surveys and analyzes best practices for techniques and processes.
  • Understands business process needs and develops solutions

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA/BS in Business, Engineering, Computer Science/Information Systems, etc. or equivalent work experience
  • 4 years of job-related experience in Business, IT or Engineering fields
  • Participation in projects of medium to high complexity


Desired:

  • 5 years’ design experience using MS SQL Server 2012 (or later) – creating tables/views
  • 5 years SQL Server (T-SQL) programming experience including stored procedures and functions
  • 5 years’ experience in SSIS 2012 or later designing and developing ETL packages (Visual Studio/SQL Server Data Tools)
  • SQL/SSIS deployment and administration (deploy/execute/monitor)
  • Experienced working with data stored across multiple databases/data sources
  • Experienced in data warehousing data modeling/design/data loading patterns and techniques. (Any RDBMS – Oracle, DB2 Teradata, MySQL, etc.)
  • Experience working in all phases of SDLC
  • Advanced experience working in front end technologies
    • JavaScript, CSS, HTML Angular, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of full stack development
    • MS SQL (T-SQL), APIs, .NET and MVC
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Self-Starter
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Ability to keep pace and contribute to a high performing team
