Position Summary

The Technical Lead provides strategic and technical leadership for enterprise data protection, ransomware resilience, cyber recovery, and related infrastructure initiatives. This role leads cross-functional projects from strategy and architecture through implementation, operational readiness, and continuous improvement, with accountability for secure, scalable, and recoverable solutions.

Serving as the technical lead between business stakeholders, cybersecurity, infrastructure, application, and operations teams, this role translates protection and recovery requirements into actionable roadmaps. The Technical Lead directs technical workstreams, coordinates vendors and delivery partners, mentors team members, and resolves complex risks and dependencies.

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position.  The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.  The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum and the midpoint $140,000 - $189,000.  The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.  

Bay Area Min: $ 140,000 

Bay Area Max: $ 238,000 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and 1-2 days per week at our Oakland Headquarters based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.  

Job Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise data protection and ransomware resilience projects and initiatives across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

• Lead and enforce data protection architecture, security controls, recovery standards, retention requirements, and governance practices aligned with enterprise and regulatory expectations.

• Identify program risks, recovery gaps, platform dependencies, and control weaknesses; develop mitigation plans and elevate decisions requiring executive or governance support.
• Lead adoption of modern data protection, threat detection, isolation, orchestration, and recovery technologies.

• Translate business impact analyses, recovery objectives, security requirements, and application dependencies into resilient solution designs and implementation guidance.

• Conduct technical workshops and tabletop simulations to improve organizational readiness.
• Serve as the senior technical escalation point during ransomware events, major incidents, and complex implementation challenges.

• Partner with cybersecurity, business continuity, product owners, project managers, vendors, and business stakeholders to define scope, funding needs, milestones, success measures, and execution plans.

• Oversee production implementations, control validation, operational handoff, documentation, and lifecycle management for data protection and ransomware recovery solutions.

• Communicate strategy, recovery posture, delivery progress, risks, investment needs, and technical trade-offs clearly to business and technology leaders.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, a job-related discipline, or equivalent experience
• 5 years of hands-on experience in data protection, backup and recovery, infrastructure, systems administration, cloud operations, or related Information Technology functions

Desired:

• 5 years of experience leading complex data protection, infrastructure resilience, cyber recovery, or ransomware preparedness projects in an Agile or hybrid delivery environment
• Expert-level experience architecting, implementing, administering, integrating, and troubleshooting Cohesity DataProtect and FortKnox; Commvault Cloud and Cleanroom Recovery; Dell PowerProtect Data Manager, PowerProtect Data Domain, Cyber Recovery, and CyberSense; and Rubrik Security Cloud and Cloud Vault
• Expertise must include policy design, immutability, air-gapped protection, replication, encryption, threat detection, cyber-vault operations, isolated recovery, automation, performance optimization, upgrades, and lifecycle management across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments
• Knowledge of enterprise storage, databases, operating systems, cloud technologies, backup architecture, retention, recovery orchestration, and measurable recovery objectives
• Relevant certifications in cloud, cybersecurity, business continuity, disaster recovery, backup and recovery, or enterprise infrastructure technologies
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders through strategy, design, implementation, testing, and operational transition
• Strong executive communication skills with the ability to explain recovery readiness, risk, technical trade-offs, and investment needs in business terms
• Strong execution discipline, ownership mindset, sound decision-making, and experience managing multiple priorities and dependencies
• Proven ability to define measurable recovery outcomes, convert requirements into actionable technical work, and drive initiatives to completion
