Department Overview

California’s evolving wildfire risk environment—driven by extreme weather, drought conditions, vegetation stress, and expanding exposure across the electric system—requires PG&E to continuously improve how it reduces ignition risk and protects customers, communities, and the environment.

The Wildfire Mitigation department leads critical work to understand, reduce, and manage wildfire risk across PG&E’s service territory. The organization supports the company’s broader wildfire safety strategy through risk-informed decision-making, operational improvements, regulatory engagement, and data-driven programs that strengthen system safety and resilience.

Within Wildfire Mitigation, the Ignitions Investigations team is responsible for investigating, analyzing, and reporting ignition-related information to help PG&E identify trends, understand drivers, meet regulatory obligations, and inform risk-reduction strategies. The team partners across Electric Operations, Vegetation Management, Asset Risk Management, Risk and Data Analytics, ATS, Engineering, Regulatory, and other stakeholders to support accurate and timely ignition analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement. The Ignition Investigation Team is responsible for:

  • Ignition data collection, quality review, trend analysis, and reporting
  • Ignition analysis and development of insights that inform wildfire risk reduction
  • Regulatory reporting, compliance support, and response to external data requests
  • Cross-functional coordination with field, engineering, operations, vegetation management, asset and regulatory teams
  • Process improvement and development of tools, standards, and procedures that improve investigation consistency and data accuracy
  • Drive innovative approaches to prevent and mitigate ignition impacts

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
