Position Summary

 

PG&E is seeking a Senior Director, SAP Development & Operations to lead our Propel program, a large-scale business and technology modernization initiative focused on migrating to SAP S/4HANA. This role will be pivotal in standardizing business processes, modernizing technology, and driving innovation across multiple business functions including Engineering, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, HR, and IT.

 

The Senior Director, SAP Development & Operations will report to the VP, Energy Systems & Solutions and oversee the technical development and system operations for Propel. The candidate will be responsible for driving the SAP S/4HANA transformation from SAP ECC, ensuring smooth implementation across four major releases from 2025-2030.

 

 

 

Reporting Relationship

 

This position reports to the Vice President, Energy Systems and Solutions, IT and is responsible for leading a 30+ person organization with Director, Senior Manager and Chief level leadership team.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

SAP Operations & Implementation

  • Lead the deployment of SAP S/4HANA on RISE for each release, migrating from IBM’s data center.
  • Architect and operationalize development, QA, and production environments.
  • Ensure seamless integration of SAP S/4HANA with adjacent SAP systems (BTP, BW4HANA NS2, SAC, GRC, Ariba, SuccessFactors) and non-SAP platforms.
  • Establish a dual-system architecture to support both SAP ECC and S/4HANA during the transition.
  • Plan and execute application, security, and patch releases while ensuring zero business disruption.

 

SAP Development & Data Migration

  • Deliver on-time, high-quality development for all RICEFW (Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms, Workflows) across internal teams, system integrators, and managed service partners.
  • Lead data conversion efforts from SAP ECC (highly customized) to S/4HANA (greenfield approach).
  • Ensure all developments align with SAP Clean Core frameworks.
  • Identify and remediate non-SAP application dependencies to prevent disruptions.

 

DevSecOps & IT Governance

  • Manage multiple SAP environments for concurrent development and testing efforts.
  • Implement SOX-compliant access and process controls, achieving zero SOX deficiencies.
  • Ensure 99.9% system uptime and cybersecurity through effective vendor and internal management (SAP RISE CAS).
  • Develop and maintain a disaster recovery strategy to ensure business continuity.
  • Monitor and optimize SAP RISE usage and costs.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Extensive experience leading large-scale SAP transformations, specifically SAP S/4HANA implementations.
  • A strong background in enterprise architecture, SAP operations, and IT leadership.
  • Expertise in managing complex SAP environments, including SAP RISE, cloud solutions, and hybrid landscapes.
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams, collaborating with vendors, and delivering large ERP programs on schedule.
  • Deep understanding of DevSecOps, compliance (SOX), cybersecurity, and system resilience.

Compensation

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  To that end, we estimate the base salary would be between $216K to $368K; the Short Term Incentive Plan (STIP) target is 30%; and the Long Term Incentive Program (LTIP).

 

Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

Background Qualifications

 

Minimum

  • Minimum of B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent work experience in computer science, information technology, business administration, engineering, or other relevant field requires
  • Minimum of 12 or more of relevant technical and leadership experience within a company or industry consulting responsible for technology strategy, planning, and client relationship work experience required
  • Experience leading SAP development and/or operations as a Director, Senior Director or VP for multiple SAP projects including 1 project on S4/HANA
  • Industry experience as IT leader managing teams and P&L
  • Experience in influencing senior management and key stakeholders.

 

Desired

  • Experience in leading large / complex SAP S4/HANA program (budget of >$100M)
  • Production operations experience with SAP S4/HANA (hyperscaler, RISE)
  • SAP S4/HANA production experience in large global company
  • Multiple ERP production landscape experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing large teams to successfully deliver IT services
