Position Summary
Designs, develops, configures, and supports cloud-native applications, data integration solutions, and data platform services utilizing AWS and Snowflake technologies. Responsible for building and operating scalable cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, database replication solutions, and enterprise data platforms that support critical business operations. Partners with business stakeholders, architects, and product teams to design secure, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that enable data-driven decision making across the organization.
Develops Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automates deployment processes, manages cloud-native services, and ensures operational excellence through monitoring, observability, security, and governance best practices.
PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position. The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum and the midpoint $128,000 - $173,000. The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office at our Oakland Headquarters based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
Job Responsibilities
Cloud Platform Engineering
- Design, develop, and operate AWS-based solutions using services including API Gateway, Lambda, EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Database Migration Service (DMS).
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and enterprise-approved modules and patterns.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting application, infrastructure, and database deployments.
- Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards using CloudWatch and enterprise observability tools.
- Ensure cloud solutions align with enterprise security, governance, networking, and compliance requirements.
Data Engineering & Snowflake
- Design and support scalable data ingestion, replication, and transformation pipelines supporting enterprise analytics and operational reporting.
- Develop and maintain integrations between operational systems, cloud platforms, and Snowflake data environments.
- Build and optimize Snowflake database objects including schemas, tables, views, tasks, streams, and stored procedures.
- Support data quality, data validation, metadata management, and governance practices within the Snowflake platform.
- Tune and optimize Snowflake workloads for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Database & Replication Engineering
- Administer Microsoft SQL Server databases hosted on AWS EC2 environments.
- Configure and manage high availability, backup/recovery, patching, monitoring, and performance tuning activities.
- Design, implement, and support AWS DMS replication processes including Change Data Capture (CDC), latency monitoring, and reconciliation.
- Analyze and troubleshoot database, replication, and application performance issues.
Operational Excellence
- Provide production support, incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvements.
- Collaborate with architects, business stakeholders, and development teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Apply cloud cost optimization practices including resource tagging, utilization analysis, right-sizing, and FinOps principles.
- Participate in architecture reviews, operational readiness assessments, and modernization initiatives.
- Resolve application, infrastructure, and data platform issues of complex scope through cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 7 years of experience in programming analysis, software engineering, cloud engineering, or data platform development.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in the utility or energy sector with understanding of grid operations, outage workflows and customer service processes.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience deploying and operating production workloads on AWS.
- Experience with AWS services including API Gateway, Lambda, EC2, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration experience.
- Experience building and supporting Git-based CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong SQL development and database design experience.
- Working knowledge of cloud security, IAM, networking, and monitoring concepts
- Experience with AWS DMS and CDC-based replication architectures.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale AWS environments using centralized governance and shared services models.
- Experience with Windows Server administration on AWS, including Systems Manager (SSM) and Patch Manager.
- Knowledge of enterprise networking concepts including VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPC Endpoints, and hybrid cloud architectures.
- Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions using CloudWatch dashboards, alarms, tracing, and operational analytics.
- Understanding of SQL Server high-availability architectures, replication technologies, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Experience designing and supporting Snowflake data warehouse and data engineering solutions.
- Experience with Snowflake Streams, Tasks, Snowpipe, performance tuning, and data governance capabilities.
- Experience with cost optimization and FinOps practices in cloud environments.
- Experience supporting utility, energy, or other critical infrastructure systems.
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Developer, Database Specialty, SysOps)
- FinOps Certified Practitioner preferred.
- Snowflake SnowPro certification preferred.
