Department Overview

 

Within the Electric Risk & Compliance organization, the Data Quality & Analytics team provides data analytics capabilities and platforms that enable effective responses to regulatory inquiries about customer affordability, system reliability, and public safety. The team works cross-functionally across the Electric Risk & Compliance organization to enable data driven decisions by applying industry-leading machine learning (ML), and GenAI. Position Summary

 

The Process Intelligence Intern will pilot the use of process mining and analytics to generate insights that lead to material benefits to PG&E’s Electric Risk & Compliance processes. This experience will not only provide experience innovating a new data analytics technique (process mining) at PG&E, it will also include valuable exposure to the world of business consulting and lean operations management.

 

This position is hybrid with the expectation of working in PG&E’s General Office in downtown Oakland, CA approximately 3 days per week. 

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

 

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $20.88 to $36.42.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

The summer project will be modeled after a real-world management consulting engagement. Activities will include the following:

  • Confirm with business clients the processes in scope for evaluation.
  • Investigate data sources and collect data needed to construct a process event log.
  • Extract data and construct the event log.
  • Set up a process mining workbench for working in Microsoft Power Automate Process Intelligence, SAP Signavio, and potentially others. The workbench will apply process mining algorithms that characterize process performance over time.
  • Generate insights about process inefficiencies via the process mining workbench. Develop a project report and present recommendations for process improvements to your business clients.

 

 

Qualifications 

 

Minimum:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Operations, Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship

 

Desired:

  • EIT or FE certification
  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Python programming skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
