Department Overview

The New Revenue Development (NRD) organization is an entrepreneurial team within PG&E’s Grid Research, innovation and Development (GRiD) organization whose purpose is to advance innovative use of PG&E assets.  This capability combines non-tariffed resources and expertise with Utility assets to maximize value for the communities we serve.  Through the non-tariffed products & services NRD develops and manages, the team has the unique opportunity to support customer satisfaction, lower operating expenses and generate positive return on investment for PG&E’s customers and shareholders.

 

Position Summary

The Principal Product Manager in NRD’s Strategy team aligns customer needs, market potential, technology readiness, and regulatory policy to identify and develop strategic business opportunities for Non-Tariffed Products and Services. The Product Manager evaluates evolving market trends and technological innovations for new growth areas, enabling maximum value of Utility assets.  This role utilizes a comprehensive standard process to bridge product strategy,  market insights, and leverages the innovation framework from Ideation to Incubation to Acceleration to Scale. The Product Manager works with key stakeholders to build compelling solutions with a distinct value proposition, evaluates risks and mitigation strategies, develops and implements go-to-market strategies and sunsets products within the portfolio. Operating within a matrix organization, the role serves as the subject-matter-expert, guiding cross-functional teams to deliver innovative and impactful non-tariffed products and services in accordance with all applicable standard governance and laws while maintaining compliance with the California Public Utility Commission's General Orders, all safety regulations, and other regulatory requirements.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The preferred work location is Oakland, CA.

 

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position.  The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.  The range to reasonably expect will be between the minimum to the midpoint of the range.  The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

 

Bay Area Minimum: $144,000.00

Bay Area Midpoint: $194,000.00

Bay Area Maximum: $244,000.00

 

Job Responsibilities

• Possesses unique product or program management and subject matter expertise as a thought leader.

• Established relationships with key industry contacts in the technology or innovation space.

• Solves unique and complex problems, anticipating issues and developing innovative solutions.

• Works with senior leaders to support strategic planning and decision making, i.e., market transformation strategies for product portfolio; portfolio management; roadmap methodology, etc.

• Comprehensive expertise in analytics, strategic vision, and the ability to utilize data for informed decision-making.

• May manage major cross-functional projects and initiatives.

•  Manage and evaluate existing products/programs, development of new products/programs, and sunset of products/programs at the end of their lifecycle.

• Identify, analyze and develop programs with internal and external stakeholders consistent with PG&E’s non-tariffed regulatory standards and market research. Up to and including: leading business case development, developing commercial strategy, deep research, regulatory contributions, etc.

 

Qualifications

Minimum

• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Business, Economics, Marketing, Psychology, or related.

• 10+ years of related experience or equivalent

 

Desired

• MBA or equivalent graduate degree (desired)

• Ability to lead and influence strategic planning and decision-making working with senior leadership at PG&E

• Demonstrated Strategic & Business Acumen

• Strong track record of mentoring and developing other product managers and cross-functional leaders.

• Demonstrated experience creating executive level presentations and experience presenting to senior leadership.

• Deep expertise in customer discovery, journey mapping, and driving customer-centric innovation.

• Skilled at simplifying complex or technical for internal and external communications.

• Experience piloting and scaling new programs or products.

• Advanced risk identification, management and mitigation.
