The Procurement Excellence Center (PEC) is a strategic function dedicated to driving procurement transformation, operational efficiency, and value creation across the organization. Within the Procurement organization, the PEC establishes best practices, standardizes processes, and leverages advanced analytics and market intelligence to enable data-driven decision-making. The PEC collaborates with all Procurement teams to enhance capabilities, improve performance, and optimize costs. Key focus areas include market intelligence and analytics, digital procurement transformation, risk management, supplier relationship management, governance, and capability development.
Position Summary
The Procurement Services Master Data Principal role plays a key role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and governance of procurement-related master data. As a subject matter expert, this individual contributor is responsible for maintaining and improving data quality, optimizing data processes, and supporting procurement transformation initiatives through effective data management.
This individual collaborates with cross-functional teams, including Procurement, IT, Finance, and Supply Chain, to develop and enforce data governance policies, drive automation, and enhance reporting capabilities. This role requires deep expertise in data management, strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate business needs into data solutions that support procurement efficiency and decision-making.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the creation, maintenance, and governance of procurement master data while ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and compliance; this individual will also serve as a subject matter expert on procurement data management, providing guidance to procurement and business stakeholders.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in data management and procurement, experience in data governance frameworks, data quality management, and process automation.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work headquarters.
PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Pay Range display:
Bay Area – $126,000 to $179,000
Reporting Relationship
The Procurement Services Master Data Principal role will report to the Manager of Procurement Services Master Data.
Job Responsibilities

Leads the creation, maintenance, and governance of procurement master data, including vendor, material, contract, and pricing data.

Acts as the accountable contact for questions, issues, and problems for multiple datasets.

Assesses gaps in data management capabilities and identify, architect, and implement solutions.

Develops and expands improvements on existing enterprise data governance program and maturity framework.

Leads cross-functional teams to address data management challenges.

Builds and manages relationships with stakeholders (e.g., external partners, business SMEs, data owners) and leadership to gain resources and support for data stewardship activities and drive data governance adoption and maturity.

Establishes and drives clear roles, responsibilities, and ownership for data stewards.

Enforces data governance policies, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and compliance.

Envisions and leads both process and cultural change for data management and governance functions.

Ensures data steward responsibilities are communicated and upheld for metadata, system of record data, data usage, security, privacy and compliance.

Partners with data owners, data architects, data scientists, and engineering teams to meet the data needs of the business.
Background Qualifications
Minimum
-
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with an emphasis in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering or MIS.

10 years of experience in data management, data governance, data quality, reference (master) data management, and/or designing and implementing functional systems and data in a structured process.
Desired

Master’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) subject.

Knowledge of data management best practices, compliance requirements, and regulatory standards (e.g., SOX).

Experienced in project management to support multiple initiatives with other data stewards, program managers and cross-functional teams.
