Department Overview

The Utility Partnerships and Innovation (UP&I) Leadership team is focused on the creation of transformative, scalable solutions to interlocking utility challenges through the development of third-party partnerships and the deployment of new technology and solutions that directly accelerate PG&E’s long-term strategy.

 

The Strategic Alignment and Portfolio Management team within UP&I supports business functions and optimizes the UP&I portfolio of work to ensure the organization operates efficiently and maximizes the strategic impact of its work. This includes aligning strategies and regulatory proceedings across the three other UP&I verticals – Electrification & Decarbonization, Load Management, and Innovation.

 

Position Summary

The Principal, Portfolio & Innovation Strategy plays a critical role in enhancing UP&I’s strategic planning and portfolio management capabilities. This position leads the development of consistent and complimentary strategy, policy, and evaluation criteria and processes to  support internal and external strategic decision-making. The analyst will also collaborate with business operations to drive financial planning aligned with UP&I and enterprise-wide goals and facilitate strategic reviews with senior leaders to ensure alignment and transparency across initiatives. This role requires a blend of analytical rigor, strategic foresight, and cross-functional collaboration.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location is in Oakland, CA.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.  

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area: $136,000.00 to $202,400.00

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of standardized evaluation methodologies, tools, and data systems to support strategic planning and investment decisions.
  • Design and evaluate financial planning scenarios that align with UP&I priorities and PG&E’s broader strategic objectives.
  • Facilitate and lead strategic reviews with UP&I leadership and cross-functional teams to assess progress, identify risks, and ensure alignment with PG&Es long-term strategy.
  • Improve strategic decision-making processes by implementing consistent frameworks and fact-based analysis across UP&I initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure portfolio strategies are informed by market trends, regulatory developments, and operational realities.
  • Provide internal consulting support to business units/functions to guide strategy development and execution.
  • Present complex data and strategic insights to senior executives and cross-functional teams in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Coach and mentor team members on strategic analysis, portfolio management, and decision support best practices.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Finance, Sociology, Policy, Engineering, Physics or other related fields or equivalent work experience
  • 8 years of relevant experience

 

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Relevant experience in strategy, portfolio management, or financial planning
  • Experience in utility strategy, innovation, or regulatory environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence leadership and senior management
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with strategic planning tools, valuation methodologies, scenario modeling, and portfolio analysis frameworks
  • Attention to detail/high level of organization.
