Position Summary

The Physical Security Operations Manager, serves as a primary operational leader within PG&E’s Security Operations function, reporting to the Director of Security Operations. Leads, manages, and advances the Physical Security Specialist (PSS) team responsible for incident response coordination, investigation support, security infrastructure and access-control improvements, co-worker safety behavior initiatives, and strategic partnership performance across all functional areas of the enterprise. Oversee the performance and compliance of guard programs; ensures timely development and implementation of containment and countermeasure plans following security incidents; and provides strategic physical security planning for new facilities, critical assets, and enterprise projects.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business needs or company requirements. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory and will be agreed upon by the successful candidate and hiring leader. This position will also require you to be in the field or in office meetings approximately 4 - 10 days per month and will also include go-sees and onsite meetings across the PG&E Service Regions including but not limited to Oakland, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Pismo, Monterey and other locations. 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for the Physical Security Specialist (PSS) team, setting priorities, coaching performance, supporting career development, and ensuring consistent execution of Security Operations objectives.
  • Lead enterprise physical security incident response, including initial triage, deployment/coordination of resources, containment and countermeasure planning, and timely follow-through to closure and lessons learned.
  • Provide investigation support in partnership with the CSD Investigative Unit and Emergency Planning, including evidence preservation, access control/alarm data review, coordination with internal stakeholders, and support to after-action reporting.
  • Oversee the performance, compliance, and continuous improvement of guard programs, serving as PG&E’s contract supervisor as applicable and ensuring post orders, KPIs/SLAs, and escalation paths are defined and enforced.
  • Lead strategic physical security planning for new facilities, organizational moves, and critical assets in partnership with Corporate Real Estate (CRE) and impacted Lines of Business, translating risk into scalable requirements and design standards.
  • Drive security infrastructure improvements by ensuring project intake, prioritization, and delivery for physical security and access control enhancements are properly identified, managed, and completed, coordinating across business stakeholders.
  • Own and maintain physical security standards, procedures, and playbooks ensuring annual review cycles and updates to reflect technology changes, regulatory expectations, and business needs.
  • Manage budgets supporting physical security operations and programs (including CRE-funded projects, FSC labor/expenses, software, and guard services), tracking forecasts, identifying cost drivers, and enabling risk-based investment decisions.
  • Partner with compliance and regulatory stakeholders to support programs and audits related to applicable requirements and standards (e.g., NERC, CFATS, TWIC, TSA), providing technical guidance and operational evidence as needed.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships across functional areas, establishing service expectations, tracking operational performance (KPIs), and driving continuous improvement for co-worker safety and physical security outcomes.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • 5 years of experience in physical security operations within a corporate, critical infrastructure, law enforcement, or military environment (e.g., guard force operations, access control/CCTV, incident response, investigations support) or related
  • 3 years of people leadership experience, including leading teams through operational tempo, coaching performance, and partnering across functions; experience leading remote and/or geographically distributed teams or related
  • CA Class C License, or equivalent

 

Desired:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in criminal justice, security management, emergency management, business, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading physical security incident response, including assessment/triage, coordination of internal and external resources, development of containment and countermeasure plans following incidents, and driving corrective actions to completion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear incident documentation, executive-ready updates, and post-incident lessons learned; proven ability to influence stakeholders in a matrixed enterprise
  • Experience applying CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) principles to facility/security design, assessments, and mitigation recommendations
  • Experience delivering physical security projects end-to-end (scope, schedule, budget, stakeholders), including project/program management practices and change management
  • Proven success managing remote and geographically dispersed teams and vendors, including establishing operating rhythms, escalation paths, and consistent standards of work
  • Experience building, scaling, and maturing security operations programs (e.g., guard force governance, access control governance, incident response playbooks), including process documentation and training
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, monitor, and improve KPI/SLA performance (e.g., response times, incident closure, guard performance, system uptime), using data to drive continuous improvement
  • Working knowledge of enterprise physical security technologies and operations (access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, monitoring/dispatch) and the ability to partner effectively with IT/cyber teams on integrated security outcome

 

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position.  The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.  The range to reasonably expect will be between the minimum and midpoint listed below.  The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

Bay Area Min: $140,000.00

Bay Area Mid: $189,000.00

Bay Area Max: $238,000.00
