Department Overview

The Electric Asset Knowledge Management Division’s GIS APS team is a GIS and web mapping group that designs and supports mapping applications, performs deep spatial and environmental analysis, and builds data engineering and ETL workflows. The team supports a wide range of internal clients, from environmental permitting teams to estimators, engineers, planners, and emergency response teams. The GIS APS team delivers everything from interactive web maps and dashboards to data services to automated spatial data pipelines. Interns are exposed to diverse GIS use cases and gain experience working in a production enterprise environment with real-world impact.

Position Summary

The intern will support the development and enhancement of GIS web mapping applications and data services focused on wildfire management, environmental analysis, and field data collection. This includes contributing to interactive web maps, environmental layers, and asset data analyses; assisting with data preparation and visualization; and supporting workflows and maps that improve situational awareness for wildfire and environmental operations.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $23.08 to $36.42.

 

Qualifications 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Information Technology and/or Information Systems
  • Students MUST be continuing education towards degree during and/or after internship

Desired:

  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Information Technology and currently pursuing Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineer or Information Technology or other engineering discipline related to proposed assignment.
  • Dual major with second major being mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
  • Basic knowledge in computer science/engineering and information technology as it relates to 3D point cloud data, NAS and AWS systems.
  • Basic investigative, assessment and evaluation skills.
  • Experience working on computer systems, architectures, networks and data.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Collaboration and teamwork.
  • Comfortable with MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
