The Energy Policy and Procurement (EPP) organization manages electric and gas procurement to ensure reliable supply (e.g. meet the gas and electric needs of our customers 24 hours a day), reduce customer costs and price risk, minimize shareholder risk, and support environmentally preferred resources.  Electric Settlements (ES) is a team within the EPP Organization responsible for monthly settlement of third-party generation contracts, weekly settlement of PG&E energy transactions in the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) marketplace and the financial reporting of these activities

 

Position Summary

The successful candidate will be required to understand, manage and analyze historical settlement data and lead ES efforts for task automation and waste elimination. This position works closely with other EPP departments in addition to partnering outside of EPP with IT, Legal, Regulatory Relations, Accounting, Banking & Money Management and Credit Risk Management.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The work location is Oakland, CA. 

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.  

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area: $114,000.00 to $162,800.00

 

Job Responsibilities

This position reports directly to the Manager of Electric Settlements, has direct financial implications to PG&E and is subject to SOx control testing. The primary duties will consist of performing the following tasks:

 

Reporting and Compliance

  • Managing historical CAISO and counterparty settlement data base.
  • Managing monthly metric reporting and analysis of historical trends, variances, etc., as requested.
  • Serving as witness and/or witness assistant, on an as needed basis, responding to data requests and developing data requests for submittal in regulatory and legislative proceedings. 
  • Managing a subset of electric contracts and ensuring all activities are following contract provisions. 
  • Performing invoice validation including processing of statements for payables and creating invoices for receivables. 
  • Tracking costs and volumes related to assigned contracts for financial reporting purposes. 
  • Initiating and fostering all cross-business relationships critical to support Energy Settlements. 
  • Working within the existing control structure to meet all Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), internal and external auditing requirements.  Ensuring that all activities and documentation are in compliance, addressing emerging control issues and identifying potential compliance risks. 
  • Working with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions. 
  • Acting as a part of a team to lead and provide direction to less experienced employees.  
  • Providing guidance in the process of researching and resolving issues. Leading the resolution of more complex accounting / disclosure issues. 

 

Process Improvement/Projects

  • Using subject matter knowledge, communication skills, and experience to anticipate issues and take steps to mitigate negative impacts related to settlement processes. 
  • Leading system upgrades and implementations that impact settlement functions. 
  • Creating automation opportunities for Power BI to eliminate manual processes for data retrieval, review and reporting.
  • Implementing improvements and process automation for monthly accrual estimation. 
  • Leveraging AI (Co-pilot) applications to improve efficiency and eliminate waste.
  • Working on special or cross-functional projects to accomplish department goals, as requested. 
  • Demonstrating timely oral and written communication to management through regular status reporting of critical issues and key activities.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business-related field, engineering, environmental policy; or equivalent work experience
  • 5 years or more of applicable work experience

 

Desired:

  • BA/BS in Business, Math, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Data Science or related quantitative discipline
  • Skilled in use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, VBA, Co-pilot
  • Advanced knowledge of Power BI
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL
  • Knowledge of Lean Operating System and the Five Plays
  • Knowledge of Energy Procurement business
  • Knowledge of CAISO and electric settlement processes
  • Attention to detail/high level of organization
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Business/Financial Acumen
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
