Department Overview

The Operations Finance (formerly Business Finance) teams conduct financial analysis, budgeting, planning, forecasting, monitoring, performance metric reporting, and analysis to PG&E. They are the primary contact for all finance and accounting, operational performance, and budget and forecasting inquiries for functional areas within PG&E. Jobs in the Operations Finance Leadership family provide management guidance and oversight to employees on the assigned Operations Finance team. 

The Operations Finance Enterprise Service Delivery Team is integral to enabling ESD leaders to meet both strategic and operational goals by providing thorough financial analysis, accurate forecasting, and fostering collaborative partnerships to achieve cross-functional objectives. The team engages with business partners as valued financial advisors, offering strategic guidance to support and shape important operational decisions.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will become an integral member of the Operations Finance Enterprise Service Delivery team as the Expert Operations Finance Analyst for the Major Projects and Project Development organizations. This position acts as a strategic finance partner, delivering detailed financial analysis, forecasting, order management, and planning support for large load project development initiatives, including Rate Reducing Load Growth (RRLG), Electric Generation Interconnection (EGI), and Transmission Planning (TPP). You’ll provide proactive insights, a broad organizational perspective, and strategic recommendations to enhance business outcomes and foster cross-functional partnerships. As a front-line business partner, you’ll have the opportunity to work with various leaders within Finance and Enterprise Service Delivery and make a meaningful contribution to our operational and financial goals. Success in this role requires the ability to demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, excel at collaborating with diverse teams, and exhibit strong analytical reporting capabilities, all of which will enable you to effectively support partners and drive operational excellence.

The expert analyst position will report to the Sr. Manager of Operations Finance Enterprise Service Delivery, directly supporting the Major Projects and Project Development organizations.    

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and the Oakland General Office every Tuesday or based on business needs. 

Job Responsibilities: 

Reporting & Analysis

  • Own development of recurring and ad hoc financial reports and dashboards
  • Analyze results and clearly explain key cost drivers, variances, and performance trends
  • Deliver executive-ready insights and recommendations to leadership

Planning and Forecasting

  • Lead multi-year planning, annual budgets, and in-year forecasting cycles
  • Develop forward-looking financial assessments to drive operational and strategic decisions
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and cost optimization levers across the portfolio

Strategic Decision Support

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders, translating financial data into actionable insights
  • Support enterprise-wide initiatives, investment decisions, and prioritization of trade-offs
  • Provide scenario modeling and sensitivity analysis to guide decision-making
  • Executing process improvements, including root cause analyses

Business Partnership

  • Partners with leaders across the enterprise to drive high performance and execute business goals and priorities
  • Leverage business knowledge to raise and analyze risks and implementation costs of potential path forward scenarios, advising operational performance management
  • Collaborate with operations, accounting, regulatory, and planning teams to ensure alignment

Financial Modeling & Tools

  • Develop and enhance complex financial models and analytical tools
  • Standardize reporting and improve data quality, automation, and efficiency
  • Translate complex data into clear financial narratives

Regulatory & Governance Support

  • Provide financial inputs, analysis, and documentation for regulatory filings and audits
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, controls, and governance processes
  • Align financial outputs with enterprise standards and requirements 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Mathematics, Business, Finance, or Accounting; or equivalent experience
  • Five years in financial planning, analysis, forecasting, budgeting, or related experience 

Desired:

  • Ability to execute tactically as well as depict the whole idea/analysis strategically for Leadership teams across the enterprise, working independently
  • Comfort interfacing with higher levels of the organization when communicating results and making recommendations
  • Ability to synthesize research, provide perspective, and develop implications for various stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of SAP R3, SAP BW
  • Master’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering or related fields
  • CPA and/or CFA
  • Ability to work successfully independently and in a fast-paced team environment
  • Intellectual curiosity, and relentless continuous improvement
  • Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and presentation skills
  • Advanced Excel modeling and experience in Power BI
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and overhead allocation models
  • Ability to present complex data and findings to internal audiences in a digestible format
  • Understanding of utility accounting fundamentals and the PG&E cost model to consult on program issues 

Compensation 

PG&E provides the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.  

A reasonable salary range is: 

  • Bay Area Min: $ 118,000.00
  • Bay Area Mid: $ 153,000.00
  • Bay Area Max: $ 188,000.00
