Department Overview

The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

 

Ths is a hybrid position (DLT) that provides support and acts as a liaison between engineers and estimators as well as other end users associated with construction efforts regarding construction standards, material and equipment.  Partners with various departments integrating safety into the development of standards, equipment designs and all work tasks, helping to ensure safe, reliable and quality electric service to our customers.  The Specialist ensures all company and binding regulatory rules, practices and requirements are adhered to and incorporated into daily construction work activity. 

 

The work location is flexible to include locations in PG&E’s Central Valley and Central Coast Divisions.  

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Work Methods and Procedures peers in the review and evaluation of new/updated procedures, tools, documentation or training. May participate on or lead internal review committees.
  • Evaluates and partners with Standards Engineers to determine new equipment benefits and applicability to PG&E construction needs.
  • Makes construction based recommendations to management. May be required to consult/support with the Tools & Equipment committee for required tools relating to ownership of material and equipment.
  • Continue to proactively stay abreast of new products and/or equipment available in the market. Deals with vendors when evaluating new products/equipment for construction.
  • Partners with personnel in Applied Technical Services (ATS), participating in the testing, observing and offering consultation based on field experience.
  • Partners with PG&E Academy to support the development and implementation of specialized training for technical issues. Supplies equipment for review and demonstrations. May conduct informal training when called upon and warranted. Collaborates with academy on training curriculum content as a content subject matter expert.
  • Partners with standards engineers to review construction and equipment standards for documentation updates. Reviews, provides editing and input to the engineering standards technical documentation. May develop bulletins and related documents.
  •  Will evaluate and perform Fit and Function with new state of the art equipment, controllers, SCADA, related equipment acceptance with all associated electronic features and security measures.
  • Provides support to Distribution Standards Engineers, Supplier Quality and M&C for Material Problem Reporting (MPR), Corrective Action Program (CAP).
  • Supports Distribution Standards Engineers with evaluating and testing of assorted line equipment and line hardware for overhead and underground electric distribution systems. E.g. (Fit and Function) noted above.
  • Works collaboratively with other work groups to improve safety, human performance and identify ways to improve the quality of our electric distribution system.
  • Committed and maintain a positive and pro-active approach.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School or GED.
  • Ten (10) years in the electric utility industry.
  • Five (5) years at the Journeyman level.
  • Certified Journeyman Lineman.
  • Ability to travel up to 70%, to include overnight travel throughout responsible area and other portions of PG&E system.
  • Active CA driver’s license or ability to obtain by 1st day or hire.
     

Desired:

  • 8 years as a Journeyman Lineman.
  • 2 years DLT experience.
  • 1 year Trouble man experience.
  • Associates Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Record of Rubber Glove and Live Line, Distribution training completion.
  • Record of Guidance Document Author training completion.
  • Working knowledge of GO95 and GO128.
  • High sense of urgency.
  • Organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Continuous learner.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal to convey ideas and messages to diverse work groups.
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Advanced  skills in computer applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point).
