The Data Science & Artificial Intelligence Department is a dynamic hub of innovation, empowering specialized “Delivery” teams to pioneer advanced data science and machine learning solutions that drive impactful results across the organization.

The Department works cross-functionally across the company to enable data driven decisions applying advanced analytics, as well as improvements to relevant business processes. Deployed to some of PG&E’s highest priority arenas, the Department specializes in building analytics products at scale with AI/ML core.

 

Position Summary

PG&E is looking for an associate Data Scientist/Data Engineer to support our data science Proof of Concept projects as well as mature products and pipelines end-to-end. In this role, the successful candidates will be uniquely positioned at the forefront of the grid’s advanced analytics, having the opportunity to advance PG&E’s triple bottom line of People, Planet, and Prosperity.

As a Delivery team, you are positioned at the forefront of solution creation in high visible projects such as Computer Vison for the grid’s asset detection, Load demand prediction by Electric Vehicle across PGE territory, and Gen AI initiatives. Our team uses industry leading data science and change management practices to drive PG&E’s transition to the sustainable grid of the future.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $39.42 to $59.61.

 

Responsibilities

  • Extracts, transforms, and loads data from dissimilar sources across PG&E for their machine learning feature engineering.
  • Apply standard data science techniques to assigned modeling tasks with direction from senior data scientists.
  • Contribute to model development efforts by following established methods and instructions.
  • Assist with writing and documenting codes for data science (feature engineering and machine learning modeling).
  • Assist in the development of summary presentations.
  • Communicates basic technical concepts and results within the data science team under supervision.
  • Participates in peer review activities with guidance from senior team members.

 

Qualifications 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree in data science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Physics, Econometrics or Economics, Engineering, Statistics.

 

Desired:

  • Experience with data engineering/ETL ecosystem, such as SAP data applications 
  • Experience with handling large datasets and cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP, or other enterprise level analytics platforms.
  • Experience with data engineering and data transformations via a training or apprenticeship program acceptable.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles and practices.
  • Basic investigative, assessment and evaluation skills.
  • Experience working on computer systems, architectures, networks and data.
