Department Overview


The Electric Distribution Asset Strategy and Program Development team is PG&E’s asset strategy hub for the Electric Distribution system. The Asset Strategy team evaluates existing asset inventory and works closely with Distribution Operation and Electric Distribution Standards to establish the programs to support a cost effective and reliable asset utilization of distribution equipment and assets, creating risk-based solutions as prioritization as needed.


Position Summary


This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC subject o collective bargaining.


The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and preparing high-level strategies for the execution of key distribution programs.  These programs are required to strengthen PG&E’s distribution system.  The candidate will work closely with the Distribution Standards to coordinate the testing and development of new tools and methods for programs.  In addition, the candidate will work closely with Distribution Asset Management leadership to develop an effective and comprehensive communication plan that includes impacted employees and leadership teams.


Depending on which specific job position is being filled, the candidate must demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the following specific areas:

  • Distribution Network systems
  • Advanced Distribution Automation
  • Distribution Equipment Life Cycle Asset Management
  • Utility Pole Asset Management
  • Data Analytics
  • Software coding/ programming (i.e. Python Scripting)
  • Long-Term Forecasting and Planning
  • Reliability Analysis and improvement

Program job responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Parallel Secondary
  • Self-Protected Transformers
  • Open Wire Secondary
  • Bushing Mounted Fuses on TX
  • Tree connects, primary, secondary and anchoring
  • NERC – Conflicts with Distribution Lines
  • STAR and Risk Rank Modeling


General job responsibilities:

  • Communicate (oral and written) recommendations and findings to leaders and officers.
  • Work closely with business partners to train, equip and structure the organization for new system design standards.
  • Benchmark with peer utilities and industry organizations as needed.
  • Travel throughout system, communicating deployment and training plan/messages to regional and division teams as required.
  • Provide back-up relief for other Standard and Asset engineers.
  • Support and hold self and other employees accountable for implementation of the safety pledge, USP 22, the code of safe practices and the safety accountability model.
  • Model the Core Values and the Leadership Competencies in every action and decision. 
  • Grow the desired culture aligned with PG&E vision and values





  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET)
  • 8 years of experience in engineering and design



  • Knowledge and experience with building deployment plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a rigorous communication plan.
  • Demonstrated ability to regularly lead group meetings. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, in person, to large work groups. 
  • Extensive project management and project governance processes and procedures
  • Proven track record with program management and strategy development
  • Ability to present complex data and findings to internal or external stakeholders
  • Advanced Degree in Engineering (Electrical) or business
  • Leadership experience
