Department Overview

The Electric Operations Technical Training Department is a dynamic group within PG&E Academy that focuses on strategically aligning itself with the lines of business toward a goal to increase employee safety, efficiency and competency by designing, developing, and delivering world class learning and on the job training solutions. We are seeking team members who can provide leadership to a team of Technical Training Instructors in a fast paced, safety focused environment. To be successful, you must possess a passion for learning and innovation, be able to build strong internal and external relationships, and have a strong propensity for action, results and continuous improvement.

 

Electric Operations Training teams deliver client focused training at the PG&E Livermore Electric Safety Academy, located in Livermore, CA, and at various locations throughout the service territory.

 

Position Summary

PG&E Academy Electric Operations Training is looking for a Training Delivery Supervisor to lead the training operations at the Evolution Training Substation in Livermore. The successful candidate will work closely with our Electric Operations Support, Curriculum Development, and line of business leadership teams, to ensure the instructors safely deliver the highest quality training in the most professional manner. This supervisor positions will report to LESA (Livermore Electric Safety Academy).

 

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team.  The successful candidate will also need to have excellent communication skills, solid organizational skills, be adaptable to changing priorities, have a strong work ethic, a sense of commitment, and a desire to lead and be successful.

 

This role is based out of the Livermore Training Facility in Livermore, CA. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead a staff of technical training instructors.
  • Adequately staff instructor resources for training courses as requested by the line of business.
  • Manage, coach, develop, and inspire internal and contract instructors to deliver the highest quality training.
  • Ensure safety and procedure adherence for instructors, students, and visitors
  • Maintain delivery schedule working closely with Academy Operations staff.
  • Ensure quality delivery by performing regular classroom and training field observations.
  • Set and align performance goals and expectations; provide on-going performance feedback and follow a prescribed performance management process to track and manage performance throughout the year.
  • Review and approve time card and expense reports for regular staff, rotational employees, and contractors
  • Drive the quality and consistency of learning solutions through the use of prepared curriculum, standards, work methods and procedures, and technology and continuous improvement to achieve line of business goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with key partners and stakeholders to create overall program effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Work effectively to manage and maintain capital funding budgets as assigned.
  • Manage expense budgets and promote efficient spending practices.
  • Lead the effort to continuously improve the quality of the product delivered by your team as measured by conducting on-going key learning meetings, creating action plans to close gaps and taking action on those items
  • Initiate, develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Manage relationships with vendors to ensure quality resources are on-boarded, and skill sets are aligned to work assignment

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School Graduate, or at least 5 years of utility journeyman experience.
  • Technical Training Certification (COMPTIA), or equivalent, required
  • Minimum 3 years working as a technical trainer for company with unions (or other regulated company) or 10+ years in trade with experience in technical training. 

Desired:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Electric facilities, specifically in the Substation and TEST department, Electric Transmission & Distribution.
  • Knowledge/understanding of PGE Academy’s apprentice programs related to Substation/TEST and Lineworker
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and foster positive working relationships with client groups and teams within their organization, at all levels of leadership
  • Ability to lead a team of professionals through change, and the communicate and deliver to the changing way we conduct business
  • Proven ability to use big picture thinking when approaching business problems
  • Understanding of the Utility business environment and leadership philosophy, concepts and best practices
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Consistent and professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven commitment to success and outcomes through cross-collaboration with peer groups and internal Academy stakeholders
  • Proven ability drive teams in continuous improvement
  • Ability to lead teams with emotional intelligence
