Department Overview:

  • Gas T&D Operations Leadership is responsible for managing teams directly or indirectly involved in operations & maintenance of the gas transmission and distribution system including completing all unplanned, emergent work and all mandated program work. Oversight of personnel performing maintenance work, short-cycle construction work, I&R activities and all mandated programs.



Manage teams that work on:

  • Support Gas and Electric organizations within PG&E’s territory with Traffic Control needs.  
  • Complete all unplanned, emergent work
  • Execute the required Operations & Maintenance Plan leak survey, leak repair, I&R, locate & mark, corrosion remediation, and patrolling work as listed in the annual workplan.
  • Document completed work to share with Engineering to update Enterprise Systems (GIS)
  • Make minor adjustments to achieve the workplan as defined by the Asset & Resource Management (<10% variation to original plan)
  • Communicate concerns regarding scope, schedule, and cost to Resource Management for adjustment
  • Manage pressure regulation, odorization, instrumentation assets and inform Asset Management of future needs to incorporate into the yearly Asset Plan Address emergency situations that arise as a first responder
  • Forecast Emergency Work, Maintenance Work, for Traffic Control Group.
  • Emergency response & fulfillment of Incident Commander role
  • Develop work force strategy (internal & external)
  • Inspect & validate work
  • All leaders provide safe gas services while maintaining compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory requirements. Leaders demonstrate safety leadership and promote a safety culture among all employees for themselves, customers, and the general public. Contribute toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Manages a team a team of gas craft employees, ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements and alignment with company values.
  • Support Gas and Electric organizations within PG&E’s territory with Traffic Control needs.  
  • Forecast Emergency Work, Maintenance Work, for Traffic Control Group
  • Maintain on-call list for Traffic Control Employees
  • Coordinate work schedule with Contract employees
  • Provide emergency response/base camp set-up
  • Ensures that work is executed safely including personal and public safety metrics
  • Manages emergency responses to all requests including equipment maintenance, ensuring employees respond in a timely manner and provide total quality service.
  • Monitors compliance to standards and specifications, to achieve high quality work the first time done. Develops action plans to address deficiencies in process or employee skill/knowledge and tracks the progress of those plans.
  • Ensures work is executed within scope, schedule and cost expectations
  • Identifies and pursues productivity improvements and implements work practices to reduce operating costs while meeting corporate and regulatory compliance.
  • Completes and maintains all work documentation and/or reporting.(seems a lot like last bullet)
  • Communicates business goals and objectives to the work group and holds all accountable to same.
  • Develops the business knowledge and technical skills of all field employees. Fosters teamwork within work group and across all company functions.
  • Ensures that customers' needs and expectations are met; ensures clear, professional, proactive communication with customers.
  • Fully implements and holds subordinates accountable for safety best practices and adherence to the safety accountability model. Ensures full compliance with the Injury & Illness Prevention Program, working closely with area Safety Program Coordinators.
  • Facilitates weekly team meetings/tailboards and adjunct training as needed.
  • Oversees both projects and 2nd party contracting within the area of responsibility
  • Ensures mandated compliance dates and regulations are met
  • Leads root-cause investigations on all PG&E at-fault dig-ins and/or reportable events.
  • Monitors the Gas Operator Qualification (OQ) Program and ensures compliance. Maintains craft qualification records for employees, such as welding and plastic fusion as required by CPUC.
  • Ensures all associated paperwork and work packages are accurate.
  • Reviews all department maintenance documents for accuracy and completeness prior to filing for future reference or for audit purposes.
  • Manages a team of union represented employees



  • High-School Diploma or GED
  • CA Driver’s License- valid
  • 5 Years of relevant experience. Relevant experience may include exposure to utility, maintenance, construction, operations, logistics or service planning work.
  • Willingness to Travel 50%
  • This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening



  • Desired:
    Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Construction, Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous leadership experience, e.g. as a crew foreman. Experience leading union-represented employees. Utility experience. Experience serving and meeting the needs of
  • internal and/or external customers.
