Summary: The Work Methods & Procedures Specialist may focus in one of several areas of expertise provided by the operations support department for their respective line of business including but not limited to: Work Methods & Procedures, Technical Support (to field maintenance and construction crews), Quality Control, Human Error Analysis & Investigation, and/or Training. Incumbents apply journeyman lineman or electrician level technical knowledge to field support sessions, projects, audits, and activities that ensure improved safety, reliability and efficiency of field maintenance and construction processes. In addition to any specialized support focus, the incumbent develops, designs, and maintains bulletins, manuals, job aids and tailboards regarding electric standards, work methods and work procedures. Incumbents may also be assigned to teams responsible for technical documentation, training development and delivery, QA and QC, human performance reporting and initiatives, equipment failure investigations, field support for construction and maintenance including changes to maintenance programs, storm and emergency response activities, and/or involvement in special projects including the implementation of business or software systems in the field.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Minimum Base Salary (California)         $129,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (California)      $175,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (California)        $220,000.00

 

Responsibilities:

  • A thought leader involved in the strategic planning and direction of the department. Develops strategy and delivers innovative solutions based on industry best practice and benchmarking.
  • Provides technical leadership within the department and guidance to employees and cross-functional teams. Coaches and develops others.
  • Applies unique subject matter expertise, extensive knowledge of concepts, principles and practices to resolve unique and complex problems. Identifies opportunities and brings in ideas to improve company performance.
  • Leads enterprise-wide initiatives and manages multiple large and complex projects. Serves as team leader.
  • Performs with high level of expertise in underground fault-locating, equipment, construction, and is able to transfer that knowledge to field crews.
  • May support or lead response and repairs to large scale emergencies. Provides emergency technical support to field personnel as necessary.
  • May support legal and other departments as witness or subject matter expert. Supports responses to data requests from the CPUC or audit findings, as well as compliance support. May support other high profile public relations issues as necessary.
  • Works with Learning Services on the development of training in key areas such as grounding, lead splices, cold shrink splices, network construction and repairs.
  • Works with curriculum development team to create, revise and improve curriculums to maximize results in alignment with program goals and objectives
  • Delivers course curriculum to students in classroom and simulated field environment. Prepares lesson plans, field service requirements or other documentation. Coaches and mentors to build student technical understanding, skills, expertise and confidence.
  • Applies technical standards in accordance with company policies and procedures and identifies any gaps in existing policies, procedures and work practices. Communicates with others for continuous improvement.
  • May lead the development of critical new tools and techniques that requires cross functional coordination.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 4 years in distribution planning or a related function with experience managing or sponsoring complex engineering projects and 2 years working with network systems
  • Technical Training Certification (COMPTIA), or equivalent, required, Journeyman certification

 

Desired:

  • Certified Journeyman Lineman, Electrician or Electrical Technician
  • For Distribution, Rubber Glove and Live Line desired
  • Guidance Document Author Training (CORP-0521)
  • Certified Journeyman Cable Splicer / Cableman
  • 2+ years of Microsoft office Suite experience
  • 15 years of experience in Electric Distribution systems including experience in network systems
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Experience developing major project business cases methods, best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job level.
  • Business, financial acumen. Understanding of value of service and cost benefit analysis.
  • Change management skills with ability to apply change management theories, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job level
  • Excellent knowledge of PG&E Electric Utility work procedures and documents including; tailboards, bulletins, and manuals.
  • Ability to develop and deliver technical training.
  • Understanding of electric system reliability.
  • Understanding of electrical power systems including oil analysis.
  • Understanding of network systems, distribution and substation configurations and reliable operations.
  • Understanding of FERC and NERC and CAISO planning criteria.
  • Strong working knowledge of IBEW contract language.
  • Competency in using compelling arguments to gain the support and commitment of others
  • Competency in knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Leadership skills with ability to coach develop others and provide direction and assistance to project teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
