Department Overview

The Electric Asset/Emeryville Repair Facility directly serves the all the PG&E system through our repair and dispositioning of electric asset equipment. Our services cover the entire system through our electric distribution field repair program headquartered out of Emeryville with 2 remote repair facilities, one in Marysville and the other in Fresno. We at Emeryville provide refurbished equipment to the Materials Distribution facilities and field repair services to the electric distribution maintenance and construction departments.

Position Summary 

This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective bargaining.

Craters are responsible for the crating support for the electric repair facilities working with or under indirect supervision of the Carpenter. They fabricate, pick and distribute electrical equipment, such as transformers, regulators or switches for repair or dispositioning. This is a physically demanding job with duties include lifting and moving materials and equipment by hand and mechanical means. Craters also participate in paint prepping and finishing of repaired inventory at the facility.

 

Responsibilities:

-Maintain an absolute commitment to safety and work safely at all times

-Receive, pick, stock and deliver material by hand or with use of mechanical equipment including crane, forklift, pallet jack and hand cart.

-Responsible for assisting in the strapping and banding of equipment that complies with shipping regulations

-Have the ability to operate carpenter shop machinery and equipment as upgraded Carpenter when   needed to backfill

-Perform duties using various material handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks and other  necessary equipment and tools to move, store and fabricate pallets and skids.

-Use computer to complete administrative tasks, timecards

-Supporting the paint prepping and completion of electric equipment

-Stack and un-stack materials while working at various heights

-Use various portable power tools in their daily support activities

-Work in environments including inclement weather and emergency conditions and under various demands

 

Qualifications 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

-Must be at least 18 years of age

-Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience

-Must possess a valid California Driver’s License

-Ability to work in all types of weather extremes

-Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions

-Ability to work at varying level of heights

-1+ year work experience in carpenter or crating environment

-Ability to work flexible schedules, extended hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime (scheduled or ad hoc)

-Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
(including FR clothing and Electric Hazard boots)

-Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds a minimum of one time a day

 

Desired Qualifications:

-3+ year work experience in carpenter or crating environment

-Certified to operate a forklift

      -Previous/current PG&E experience

     -Previous/current Hiring Hall experience

      -Military experience

-Graduate or currently enrolled in an approved PowerPathway®  Program
