Department Overview

PG&E’s dynamic Transportation Services team is responsible for managing all aspects of the PG&E transportation related equipment, from a piece of equipment’s initial design stage to its final disposition. The transportation team is comprised of several interrelated departments including transportation engineering, garage operations, and business operations. Each of these departments work together to provide our clients with a full-service transportation solution. The work of our Transportation Services department is key to the company's success and provides challenge and variety beyond the day-to-day business operations associated with the service and repair of the PG&E operating fleet including, but not limited to, involvement in regulatory and compliance issues, capital planning, clean air and alternate fuel initiatives, project support, company policy review, safety and technical analyses.


Position Summary

Responsible for providing mechanical engineering and technical expertise for all PG&E fleet vehicles and parts including design, analysis, industry standards and guidelines, manufacturer and vendor capabilities, quality assurance, and testing. Responsible for the design, illustration, revision, and presentation of technical drawings, layouts, schematics, and specifications. Diagnoses and determines the root causes of vehicle and parts failures, evaluates vendor test data, and provides proven and tested solutions. Participates within bid evaluations and project teams and ensures the best fit vendor designs and revisions are selected. Collaborates with fleet management during the design and buildup of new vehicles and parts, and performs a final inspection at the end of the production cycle.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced mechanical engineering and technical expertise for vehicles and parts
  • Collaborates with PG&E’s Department of Transportation (DOT) and Regulatory Compliance to ensure that all transportation services vehicles and parts are within compliance of company policies, federal, state, and local regulations, and/or vendor warranty and safety recalls
  • Evaluates and reviews the quality, creditability, reliability of services performed by vehicle and parts manufacturers and vendors
  • Reviews the design, illustration, revision, and presentation of technical drawings, layouts, schematics, and specifications
  • Develops and/or revises current procedures, processes, and practices regarding diagnosis and determination of root causes for vehicle and parts issues
  • Establishes and evaluates project risk and opportunity assessments including modeling and simulation analysis to engineering management.
  • Develops and forecasts production schedules, cost estimates, and economic analysis for the design and development of new vehicles and parts including unit cost, lifespan, and rate/return on investment
  • Approves and reviews the performance of vehicle and parts inspections within vendor locations
  • Reviews all capital spending plans and operating metrics, and provides consolidated summary reports and relevant recommendations to engineering management
  • May provide training, guidance, and instruction to lower job level fleet engineers

 

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position.  The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.  The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum and the midpoint.  The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

California Min: $108,000

California Mid: $141,000

California Max $173,000

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering (i.e.: Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Metallurgical) or equivalent experience
  • Five (5) years of related experience

 

Desired

  • Completion of certificate and/or coursework from an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) program
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Fleet vehicle operations experience
  • Utility industry experience
  • Prior experience with automotive and truck maintenance and repair
