Department Overview:

Applied Technology Services (ATS) is an internal service organization that provides high quality technical services and expertise on an as-needed basis to all lines of business at Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E). Based at PG&E’s San Ramon Technology Center, ATS is a multi-disciplinary team of approximately 129 engineers and technical personnel who perform work in the ATS San Ramon offices and laboratories, and in the field.

The Instrument Calibration and Repair Services unit provides calibration and repair services for a wide variety of measurement and test equipment in service throughout PG&E.  The unit has primary and secondary capabilities in several areas including AC and DC voltage, current, resistance, temperature, airflow, dimension, time, and frequency.  Calibrations performed for nuclear power plants are performed in accordance with federally mandated nuclear quality assurance program requirements.

 

Position Summary:

The Instrument Calibration and Repair (IC&R) Supervisor is directly responsible for providing leadership, supervision, training, qualification, engineering support, and direction to a staff of engineering technicians to provide comprehensive calibration services of measurement and test equipment (M&TE) for all PG&E lines of business. The Supervisor is accountable and responsible for the entire production process for calibration. This includes planning, organizing, and monitoring Unit assignments, and ensuring work expectations for scope, schedule, cost, safety, quality, environmental compliance, and responsiveness are established and are effectively communicated with clients, work unit personnel, management, and other stakeholders.

 

The Supervisor will also ensure that all work expectations are fully met and take appropriate and effective corrective actions when needed. Effectively manage personnel, including initiating, implementing, and following through with all performance management actions for employees including feedback, accountability, and development planning.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)    $147,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)    $199,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)    $251,000.00

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining the enterprise system to manage over 50,000 M&TE assets across PG&E territory.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the quality management system that support both ISO 17025 and Nuclear safety related calibrations.  Responsible for review/approval of technical documents related to the workflow including but not limited to calibration reports, out of tolerance reports, work procedures, document control, procurement transactions, requisitions, engineering analysis, and non-conformance reports.
  • Responsible for defining future services for the Instrument Calibration & Repair Unit that benefit PG&E. Work with business partners to evaluate and assess new technology that will be beneficial to their business. Work to continually provide high value services to clients. Use feedback from business partners to identify and quickly resolve service delivery issues.
  • Participate in ATS planning and coordination activities to assure Unit is integrated with other ATS services and is prepared to meet future PG&E requirements.
  • Prepare short- and long-term goals for the Unit. Work with the ATS Leadership Team on strategic issues including development and implementation of the ATS strategic plan, resource plans, and other special assignments.
  • Ensure production goals and objectives are met in a timely and efficient manner which will require managing the team effectively. This will include turnaround time, average age of open work orders, financial budget, etc.
  • Coordinate, lead, and supervise the daily production activities of direct reports.
  • Monitor and document employee attendance and performance.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures in a consistent and fair manner.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports on productivity, turnaround time, and other critical business metrics.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Seven years in a related technical or engineering environment
  • 10-15% travel.

Desired:

  • Two years of experience in a production supervisory role.
  • Experience supervising and managing Bargaining Unit personnel.
