Position Summary
The Supervisor for Chemistry is responsible for providing leadership, training, safety, testing expertise, and technical direction to the Chemists and ESC Technicians who deliver comprehensive testing of insulating oils from high voltage electrical assets operated by PG&E.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)    $147,000.00
Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)    $199,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)    $251,000.00

 

Responsibilities:

Performs oversees the strategic planning functions for the department, including forecasting and budgeting, evaluating potential projects, and allocating resources.  Provides technical leadership for projects, ensuring client satisfaction, reviewing, and approving technical data, and identifying/evaluating new technologies for testing based on technological advances and client needs.  This leader promotes a safety and quality culture, ensuring adherence to all company and regulatory safety and quality policies and procedures.  The Supervisor also ensures that work expectations are met and takes effective corrective actions when necessary.

 

The Supervisor is required to provide daily oversight and continuous improvement on the following specific areas:

  • GC FID/TCD Headspace Testing (ASTM 3612c)
  • EPA SW-846 8082 Testing of PCB’s
  • HPLC Testing
  • Titration-based Testing of oils for Total Acid Number and Moisture
  • Inter Facial Tension (IFT) Testing
  • ISO 17025 and TNI Quality Systems compliance
  • Testing/workflow prioritization
  • Statistical Quality Assurance (SQC) of laboratory test data.
  • Support and development of database applications (MS Access and SAP), and
  • Laboratory safety program

 

Qualifications
Minimum:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
•    7 years in related technical or engineering environment

Desired:
•    Extensive experience with Gas Chromatogaphic (GC) methods and data

•    Experience in supervising a production chemical testing laboratory
•    Working  experience with ISO 17025 requirements
•    Familiarity with HPLC and titration theory and applications
•    Experience leading a Laboratory safety program
•    Comprehensive understanding of quality control implementation concepts and practices
•    Leadership and project management skills

•    Strong database experience
•    General financial knowledge to estimate costs, budgets, prepare proposals and track spending
•    Effective oral and written communication skills with management and subordinates
•    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
•    Decision making skills. Ability to see the big picture and prioritize competing priorities
•    Process improvement knowledge and skill
•    Strong multitasking, planning and organizational skills
•    Strong MS Office and computer skills
