Summary: The Senior Manager, Innovation and Risk oversees risk and compliance issues for Electric Operations, including leading processes to identify and assess risk, and partnering with senior leadership to develop effective mitigation strategies and plans with a focus on public and system safety. The incumbent champions risk efforts, ensuring awareness across Electric Operations, oversees operational risk management and provides guidance as a subject matter expert on corporate risk tools, policies, practices, and processes.

 

The selected candidate must live within PG&E’s service territory.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)            $144,000.00

Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)        $194,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)           $244,000.00

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leads risk innovation approaches, leveraging partnerships to identify technological approaches to reduce risk through establishment of risk innovation center
  • Provides authoritative risk support, advice, and recommendations in order to ensure effective risk management within the business. Ensure Electric Operations practices are aligned with operational risk management processes (ORMP). Leads the process to identify and document risk, assess the impact, explore & evaluate alternatives, develop a risk score.
  • Develops risk management processes, systems, goals, objectives and metrics to effectively lead the implementation in Electric Operations. Owns processes and improvements associated with Electric Operations Public and System Safety Strategic Plan.
  • Propose & sell risk mitigation plans & strategies. Ensures approved mitigation plans are incorporated into Electric Operations strategic planning and budgeting processes. Tracks risk mitigation activities against commitments.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with other line of business (LOB) risk and compliance managers to understand the interdependencies between risks and identify mutually beneficial mitigation strategies. Influences Electric Operations investment planning to include programs to enhance system safety. Teams with corporate risk staff to ensure Electric Operations risk management is consistent with risk management in other LOBs.
  • Recognizes internal and external developments that may impact risks within Electric Operations. Leverages risk information to understand and challenge business decisions.
  • Oversees the development of executive presentations on risk overview, mitigation strategies, performance against plans. Develops and proposes new plans, strategies, and/or approaches to address risks. Strives to gain approval, agreement from executives.
  • Works with Compliance & Ethics and LOB leadership teams to support the Compliance Risk Management Initiative (CRM):
    • Understands the risks and work processes associated with the compliance requirements and demonstrate how we are in compliance.
    • Ensures the appropriate mechanisms are in place to identify new compliance requirements or changes to existing compliance requirements. May partner with Regulatory Affairs to monitor developments and determine applicability or impact on Electric Operations.
    • Assesses the effectiveness of the control environment through regulatory audits.
    • Improves compliance performance by closing gaps, enhancing/implementing controls, and integrating compliance into daily work.
  • Develops and proposes agendas for meetings to ensure risk information and management strategies are discussed in appropriate detail.
  • Develops and implements a risk and compliance management dashboard to provide ongoing visibility into risk mitigation activities and to provide regular progress updates on Compliance Action plans and Risk Mitigation Plans.
  • Manage risk and compliance metrics, tracks progress. Prepare risk and compliance materials for various executive and board-level committees.

 

Qualfiications

Minimum:

  • BA/BS degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Engineering, or equivalent
  • 10 of related experience

 

Desired:

  • Previous experience in risk management, safety engineering or quality engineering.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • Leadership & management experience.
  • Broad knowledge of the utility industry, trends, issues, business operations, and safety practices and regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise risk management concepts, methods, practices and techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal, influence and collaboration skills to effectively partner with leaders and peers in multiple departments and facilitate effective cross-functional team-building.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to develop and deliver executive level briefings both in writing and orally.
  • Excellent critical thinking abilities to interpret and implement high-level regulations and execution plans.
  • Analytical investigative and problem solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively coach and mentor staff and peers, as well as complete department operational plans.
  • Strong adaptability, organizational, prioritization and independent working ability to effectively deal with ambiguity and changing business priorities.
  • Knowledge and skill in process improvement concepts, methods and practices.
