Position Summary:

The Business Systems Specialist (BSS) is viewed as an integral strategic partner/business liaison in technology decisions. We understand business content, procedures, processes, and systems for the corresponding business unit(s). The incumbent may partner with business-process owners and end users in Electric Operations to define system requirements, provide user and systems support, coordinate user acceptance testing of new tools, and to consult with the business on new technologies & features that may contribute to business-process efficiencies. Incumbents apply electric distribution operations knowledge to perform feasibility analysis, develop project scope, and provide recommendations on the alternative solutions, project strategy and deliverable prioritization. The incumbent will prepare and deliver business users’ system needs to Information Technology and represents user needs in the development of functional specifications. The incumbent may also analyze solution design and related work products and validate that they satisfy business requirements. Incumbents may also be assigned to teams responsible for standards and work procedures, QA/QC analysis and recommendations, human performance initiatives, work-procedure-error investigation, and storm and emergency response activities.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • BS/BA or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 6 years in the electric utility industry (i.e., Distribution Operators, IT Support, DCC Support, etc.)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of control center and electric distribution operations
  • Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstration of project-management experience and the ability to multi-task
  • Extensive participation in projects of high complexity
  • Participate on cross-functional teams
  • Experience in conducting live and remote training sessions
  • Advanced MS Office skills including MS Visio and MS Project
  • Organizational skills
  • Knowledge of PG&E's electric utility requirements and documents including standards, work procedures, tailboards, bulletins, and manuals Strong verbal and written communication skills with diverse work groups
  • Able to adapt to continuous change in an “continuous learning environment”
  • Ability to work autonomously and take ownership with minimal direction
  • Available to travel PG&E’s three distribution control centers
  • Available to represent the BAT team at EOC activations
  • Availability to represent the BAT team during planned/unplanned system outages.
  • Experience with authoring job aides and internal processes
  • Understands how to navigate competing priorities to meet business needs
  • Availability to work an on-call schedule

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide consulting in business, systems, and user needs
  • Handle moderate-to-complex end-user system and operations issues that arise with supported systems and tools
  • Address most user inquiries independently; involve appropriate peers/partners as needed.
  • Understand the current, and future, business environment to anticipate, identify, and meet the business needs. 
  • Identify, propose. and influence solutions to moderate-to-complex business needs
  • Address concerns and questions, and provide timely and professional communications
  • Actively contribute to teams that define, review, and approve requirements for the business
  • Possess the knowledge required for our technology tools to author job aides/training material
  • Provides input/develops process change in support of technology functionality. Represents the end user needs
  • May be required to maintain and update assigned control documents within defined review cycle
  • Reviews technical documents prior to releasing to business partners
  • Contribute to business-case development
  • Participate in User Acceptance Tests (UAT), perform quality reviews of data, and document test results
  • Participate in project estimates
