Position Summary:

Performs Vegetation Management Qualification assessments of employees in certain technical or craft roles to ensure and promote skill competence and overall public and employee safety. Facilitates and administers various types of tests or assessments to determine if operations employees in Vegetation Management are performing their job functions correctly and safely.

 

Job Responsibilities:

•Proctors VM Assessments. Qualification assessments will focus on a specific area of skill/knowledge including, but not limited to, any task(s) preformed within vegetation management work may involve chainsaw use, tree felling, climbing, and cutting aloft, limbing and bucking, and use of aerial lift.

•Performs and administers initial and subsequent non-routine Assessments, written or computer-based assessment tests and field observations of knowledge and skills including new and/or difficult skills and techniques, with general guidance on new assignments.

• Administers the entire qualification process, both written/computer testing and field observation, through effective communication and tailboarding.  Ensures the purpose and process.

•Documents and communicates results to first line supervision, using standardized templates and forms.

•Provides feedback to participants upon completion of the series of observations.

•Maintains and calibrates equipment and props. Operates heavy equipment including but not limited to skid steer loader, telehandler, and excavator for purpose of constructing and resetting assessment props.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum:

•High School Diploma or GED

•Valid Class C Driver’s License

•CPR / First Aid

•Three (3) years of experience in the arboriculture industry

•One (1) year in trainer or safety position

•Five (5) years performing work relevant to assessments

  • OSHA 30
  • Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP)

 

Desired:

•Any technical or continued education in related field.  (Forestry / utility Veg Mgmt / logging)

Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP)

or Consulting Utility Forester Safety Professional (CUFSP)

•OSHA 30

•OSHA 30  (with focus in Elec Power)

•International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)  Credentials

•Commercial Driver’s License

•Electric Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP)

•Utility line clearance

•Three (3) years heavy equipment operating experience.

•Knowledge in technical discipline for which incumbent is performing assessments   

•Good understanding of specific work methods and procedures, including all safety practices.

•Written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coach and provide feedback

•Proficient in Microsoft Office:  Word, Excel

•Knowledge of OSHA Logging Regulations, ANSI Z133 Standards and PG&E Safe Work Practices

•Can personally pass assessments with competent or proficient level.

•Can perform assessments on others

•Ability to perform an aerial rescue
