The Emergency Planning group at Diablo Canyon implements all aspects the site emergency plan including training and qualification of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO), maintaining the emergency facilities and equipment, preparing and conducting drills and exercises, interfacing and working with offsite organizations (San Luis Obispo County, State of CA, FEMA, Dept of Homeland Security, NRC, and others), and coordination of implementing procedures and other plant requirements.

 

Position Summary

DCPP Emergency Planning is looking for a talented summer intern to lead the development and implementation of several modernization projects related to emergency response and preparedness. Projects may include developing or working on the personnel management databases, WebEOC API integration, simulated drill data feeder, and data visualization tools.

To obtain and maintain employment, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check for unescorted access to a nuclear plant, psychological screen, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening in fulfillment of federal requirements.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation and maintenance of the DCPP Emergency Plan
  • Develop and document functional requirement specifications for new Emergency Plan programs
  • Develop and implement testing for new and existing Emergency Plan programs
  • Support coordination between Emergency Planning and other plant groups including Business Applications, Information Technology, and Digital Engineering

 

The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and support activities as described above working with a team of experienced Emergency Planning Coordinators.  Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Nuclear Generation organization through the work they will be performing.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

 

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $24.52 to $35.37.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Emergency Management at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or obtain one at least 30 days prior to start date.

Desired:

  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Interest in the field of nuclear power and/or emergency management
  • Coding experience in Python, C#, SQL, and/or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently within guidelines provided
