Position Summary

This category is for the engineer that has acquired extensive knowledge of concepts, principles and practices, and works independently with only general direction. This senior engineer provides technical direction to engineers and completes assignments that require integration with other departments and are of broad scope and complexity.

 

May be required to fill a rotation in the DCPP Emergency Response Organization (ERO) as necessary.

 

To obtain and maintain employment and unescorted access at DCPP, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check, psychological screen, computer-based training, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

California Minimum: $​153,828

California Maximum: $​197,628

 

Qualifications 

Minimum

  • A four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the United States or the equivalent as defined in ANSI/ANS-3.1-1993,
  • Mastery of the Associate and Journey level Engineer job duties and demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform the basic duties of the Senior Engineer. Meets specific technical requirements gained through a minimum of eight years of cumulative experience in engineering and related

 

Desired

  • 4-year BS Degree in Civil/Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience working in commercial nuclear power plant with design and licensing basis
  • MA/MS/PHD
  • Current and active California PE license, or ability to obtain within 18 months.

 

Responsibilities and Desired Experience

 

  • May perform functions of Associate and Journey level Engineers and in addition: (This list is not all-inclusive and all items may not be applicable to all sections and disciplines.)
  • Applies extensive knowledge of concepts, principles and practices in Piping Stress Analysis and Pipe Support design to resolve complex problems.
  • Works independently with only general direction.
  • Provides technical direction to entry and journey employees.
  • Completes assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards.
  • Completes assignments that require integration of information from a variety of sources.
  • Familiarity with Piping Stress Analysis and related Computer Programs/Software, e.g., ME101, PIPESTRESS, AUTOPIPE, etc.
  • Familiarity with the ASME/ANSI Power Piping B31.1 Code and/or ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, Rules for Constructions of Nuclear Power Plant Components.
  • Analysis of piping systems including deadweight, thermal, and seismic analysis.
  • Performing Local Stress evaluation of welded attachments.
  • Performing Water Hammer Analysis
  • Assess In-Service-Inspection (ISI) measurement data and provide recommendations.
  • Evaluation of degraded piping conditions, e.g. reduced wall thickness
  • Familiarity with Pipe Supports and Design Calculations
  • Familiarity and experience using GT STRUDL® software
  • Familiarity with ASME O&M Code and requirements for Operation & Maintenance of Snubbers
  • Familiarity with NRC Guidance Documents (e.g. NUREG-1482)
  • Implementation and Management of Snubber testing program
  • Software Quality Assurance (SQA) plans for piping analysis programs
  • Leads large, complex (multi-discipline, multi-group) technical projects for DCPP.
  • Perform as on-the-job (OJT)/task-performance-evaluation (TPE) evaluator as assigned.
  • Provide support to other departments in technical and engineering areas.
  • Acts as a mentor for journey or associate engineers.
  • May lead troubleshooting or problem resolution teams.
  • Perform plant walkdowns, inspections, and evaluations for general condition assessment
  • Maintains ability for limited travel to attend industry conferences or oversight of vendors at offsite locations.
  • Maintains ability to represent PG&E at industry association, trade committee, and inter-utility work groups.
  • Maintains ability to fulfill an assigned role on Emergency Response Organization (ERO)
  • Maintains ability to support modified work hours during DCPP Refueling Outages.
