Department Overview

PG&E’s Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

 

Position Summary

 

The Construction Manager is responsible for Power Generation construction and improvement projects. The Construction Manager identifies contract worthy projects, consults on project feasibility and project site details, coordinates with construction crews, oversees project inspectors, and on a project specific basis performs construct ion oversight. The incumbent may also prepare job packages and construction estimates, conduct job walks, and meet with bidders, contractors, and governing agencies. The Construction Manager ensures projects are completed per company standards, engineering design, regulatory guidelines, permits and schedule.

 

This position is hybrid with field visits to Tiger Creek or Angels Camp 1-3 days a week.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

Bay Area Minimum: $105,000
Bay Area Mid: $137,000

Bay Area Maximum:$169,000

 

California Minimum: $100,000

California Mid: $130,000

California Maximum: $161,000

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

 

  • Works closely with Project Managers to understand construction targets and identify potential contractual projects.
  • Compiles and interprets internal drawings and relevant data for the RFP and contract processes, renegotiates contract scope with contractor when needed. Following start of construction, consults and clarifies technical details for contractors, and Inspectors while assisting with change orders if needed.
  • Attends job scope walk downs, leads job scope discussions and attends 30/60/90 design reviews by Engineering to provide constructability input. Leads formal job walk downs with Project Managers  to review the IFC (Issued For Construction) drawings and discuss schedule and target dates.
  • Addresses all communication and project documentation with contractors and conduct meetings at the job site.
  • Monitors daily construction activities and ensures the construction operations meet the program’s safety, quality, cost and schedule goals. Utilize workload management database, update any assigned projects, reviews workload analysis reports for action, and manages full planning team process from inception via request for contract.
  • Acts as point of contact for construction contractors, ensures the contractor’s plan and assigned resources are adequate to deliver the highest value. Obtains any information, resources, services or materials needed to maintain the construction work flow, budget and schedule from Project Coordinator, Engineering, Contracts or other internal PG&E teams.
  • Acts as Incident Commander and PG&E Representative in the field. Ensures contractors follow safety plans, project environmental/land permits and PG&E safety rules and processes.
  • Oversees the Inspection of the construction work. Coordinates the work of field inspectors to ensure adequate coverage of all work performed.
  • Communicates any engineering and design issues with Project Coordination and Engineering, seeks or makes decisions on any change affecting cost and schedule according to the DOA.
  • Works with Project Managers to establish planning/schedule dates for construction to commence later in the year.
  • Provides mentoring and training to Associate, Career and Senior level employees

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

 

Minimum

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience in the field of Industrial engineering or Construction

 

 

Desired

 

  • 7 years working experience in the field of Industrial Engineering or Construction.
