Department Overview

The Market Implementation, Design, Analysis, andStrategy (MIDAS) team is part of PG&E’s Energy Policy and Procurement (EPP) organization, which is responsible for the procurement of both electric power and natural gas for PG&E customers. To support the procurement of reliable and affordable electricpower in an environmentally sustainable manner, the MIDAS team monitors the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) markets, actively participates in design efforts, manages implementation of market initiatives, and supports other strategic efforts across theEPP organization.

Position Summary

The EPP organization is an active participant in regulatory forums to shape California’s electric markets. The Sr. Analyst will primarily focus on: (1) CAISO market design initiatives; (2) Specialanalysis projects related to the changing market landscape; 3. Implementation coordination; and 4. Market analysis.


Minimum Qualifications:
*Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, ComputerScience or related discipline
*4 years of relevant experience
*Good understanding of project management and budgeting

Desired Qualifications:
*MBA or other graduate programs desirable
*Advanced knowledge of energy market design orutility experience, especially related to California markets and regulators (CAISO and CPUC)
*Excellent communication and writing skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to various audiences (technical colleagues, senior management)
*Attention to details and understanding of key drivers affecting business results, sometimes with limited information/data
*Self-directed, team player, focused on delivering high quality results consistently and on a timely basis
*Excellent timemanagement skills and ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives
*Able to provide new perspectives/approaches on existing tasks/solutions
*Proficient in Microsoft Office, Project, Visio or similar software


Electric Market Strategy, Design and Analysis:
*Able to take a strategic view of future market developments and impacts on PG&E’s portfolio. Ability to understand a wide range of commercial activities within Energy Policyand Procurement and how PG&E portfolio needs may evolve with changes in market conditions. Sr. Analyst is responsible for driving issues to conclusion.
*Participate in CAISO-sponsored stakeholder activities, ensuring that PG&E’s advocacy positions areclearly articulated, and reflect the consensus view of Energy Policy and Procurement and other internal PG&E stakeholders, so as to influence the energy and capacity market initiatives. This requires Sr. Analyst to become proficient with significant portions ofthe CAISO tariff and operations as well as PG&E’s energy procurement activities.
*Able to monitor electric and greenhouse gas market performance to identify potential market design inefficiencies, market aberrations and inappropriate market behavior.
*Able to foster good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and to clearly communicate complex issues in ways that tailor messaging based on the audience. The Sr. Analyst will also be responsible for working with all levels within theorganization, including making presentations to PG&E Officers, as well as leading cross-functional teams.
*Able to coordinate on Market Initiative Implementation programs on complex projects and develop project scope that translates CAISO’s businessrequirement changes to Information Technology (IT) system and business process changes in understandable terms, including impacts from interdependencies between departments.
